New to racing sims , some thoughts after a weekend.

Hello, I am a veteran of just about every PC flight sim there was since about 1985 (OK not a PC , a C64) . I have been wanting to try a racing game for a while . I have almost ZERO racing experience . All I learned was from back in April , I did 7 laps in Las Vegas in a Porsche Cayman GTS , a fun time, with some instruction . Learned a little about "lines" and when to brake , but thats about it .

Any good resource to study racing so I know what techniques I should be employing ?

I picked pCars for the following reasons

    1) Realistic
    2) All content available from start , no silly unlocks, no "power up" mods . I want a sim , not a GAME

    pCars works well on my setup i7-4790K , 12GB , GTX970 .

Running with a Thrustmaster GPX lightback gamepad I bought just for pcars , as I did not know if I wanted to invest in space to get a wheel (or the money) . This is not ideal , I know . Hopefully my kids will get into it and I can get a wheel to use between the PS4 and PC .

I am definitely loving pCars , and am looking forward to putting in some more time. Only thing its missing is Porsches .... and realistic crashes .

Here's a good vid Mahjik linked to in the troubleshooting forum about setting your FOV that shows what that article I linked to above is describing:

EmptyBox has some other vids worth watching as well:

Pcars is good, you should try "Assetto Corsa" too when you like Realistic Sims.

I came over from flight sims myself, having many many hours in Falcon 4.0 or Jane's F/A-18, as well as Microsoft Combat Flight simulator 1-2...and others going all the way back to Jet on the IBM PCjr.

Have some seat time in rFactor, iRacing and in Game Stock Car, but my PC is aging so picked this up on console. This is the nail in the coffin for me upgrading/buying a new PC. Enjoying it immensely, and interested in AC as well.

The book "Going Faster: Mastering the Art of Race Driving" by the Skip Barber racing school (Bentley publishers) is excellent
