Of course. Thatís not my point.
But what a team needs is to maximize the next 2-3 years.
I donít hear of many contracts longer than that.

Teams work longer term I agree.
But drivers are a commodity. With some exceptions.
And every driver seems to blame the car.

every driver blames the car because a driver can only carry a ill performing car so far and where one car may suit one driver's driving style the same car may not suit another drivers driving style

same can be said about motogp which im watching right now a lot of riders said the honda's were undrivable by anybody other than marc marquez because it was so loose

some drivers do better at some teams then others perfect example would be Gasly he does great at Alphatouri aka toro rosso but was absolute crap at redbull

you could put hamilton in a williams and he cant win but if you put him in a mclaren again he probably could

a driver can only carry the car so far its just that simple

if the car doesnt handle right for the driver their talent wont show

About Russell, it's worth remembering that he's a GP3 champion and a F2 champion, and he beat Norris & Albon to win his F2 title. He's made it into Q2 several times with the worst car on the grid, I really hope he gets into a competitive car in the near future so that he can show his true potential.

who holds the most wins holds no salt in my opinion different era's and different cars i wouldnt expect any of todays drivers to be capable of jumping behind the wheel of a 60-70's f1 car like the Tyrells that Jackie Stewart drove or the likes of which Jim Clark drove for lotus

    different speed, different times.
It's also possible, that the historic heroes would have problems with cars from today.
    Who knows
Every car could be a race car, as long as you have the balls to drive it like that !

Current drivers would have problem with old car's handling, old drivers would have problem with current car's g-forces in high speed turns and with current steering wheels and having to adjust settings during the race.
Hamilton is a great driver, definitely one of the best in history, but the fact that he's had by far the best car for 7 seasons in a row, and in 4 of those seasons he didn't have competition from his teammate definitely helped him achieve the record.

@FS7 agreed is hamilton the greatest of this era? probably

is he the greatest of all time...thats a can of worms i really dont care about and as you said to your points i dont think its fair or right to compare the different era's

    because they were different times

now a days drivers ruitenally use the curbs but back in the 70's at a place like monico if you hit a curb you busted a wheel or your suspension as they were actual curbs

now a days at monaco the curbs are no longer like that

best way to show anyone what i am talking about is to watch Weekend of a champion

There's always a bit of luck involved in these things. If Hamilton had stayed at McLaren and Alonso had gone to Mercedes instead, the story might have been different. At the time, everyone thought Lewis was mad to make that move, shows how much we know.
