A better word in English to describe someone with good qualities might be renouned, acclaimed, or even famous (famous can be almost anything, but generally when something is considered famous, it's usually in a good way).
Depends on the skills depicted I guess. Senna was notoriously known for putting a car in the gap if you left it open for him, even if it was but a small one just enough to fit the car.
The drivers at the time were as weary for Ayrton because of that in the same way they have to be for Max. With the driving experience difference only being the reason for the difference in judgement on when to put that car there. After all, Senna went up through the scales of Formula classes not as fast as Max and he arrived in F1 at a later age.

That said, I do think you have to have a trait in F1 you are notorious for. Something that puts the other drivers on edge as well as the spectators at the edge of their seats, of which the results will be a reason to fill tabloits and newspapers as well as becoming the talk of the day at work.
At the end of the day F1 is business and as long as bad news isn't brand damaging, than any news that puts your driver, your team and most importantly your sponsors in the spotlight will benefit your team and you as a driver the most. Proof of that being the contracts that were signed and the height of the driver's salary.

So I will stick to my guns and say that notorious 'good for business' bad traits is a necessary thing in order to become one of the greatest drivers.

Maybe but I was just listening to this whilst that view on the matter came to me, whilst the windows were being cut out behind me and I tried to drown out the sound with my Sony WH-1000Xm3 (90% successfully, some bits faguely came through at full volume).

Anyway... this song from Duran Duran (which I saw in an F1 video on Senna once)...

Oh and yes of course I know I have my notorious streaks too.

If he was such a capable driver as you seemingly think he was, he would have scored more than a total of 17 championship-points in 107 races. He only drove with Schumacher for one and a half years. Any really capable driver, like his son or Hamilton, as much as I dislike both, would have scored way more points in 107 GPs than 17. Even with sub-par material. Schumacher scored 59 points in 1996 at Ferrari which was an absolute shitbox at that time. I really really doubt that Verstappen senior would've been able to even get close to that.
He may have been sold under his value and also may have been a better driver than he seemed to be. But not even in close proximity of a Schumacher, Senna, Hamilton or even Alonso.

Still too bad that Senna is dead and Schumacher's a vegetable now.

Again statistics which don't say anything. I think you forgot how often the Arrows and Minardi died, and not only in the hands of Jos but also his team mates.

A driver can't be judged based on statistics like that, because those statistics also tel the story about material quality and quality of the team including development and pitstop strategies.

Indeed it is too bad Michael is a vegetable otherwise he could put people right on Jos.

The only thing I know is that Jos and Michael often went karting and Michael would definitely not always win, as said by Michael himself in below interview.

Fastest lap in the first session of Winter Test Day 1 with still two hours to go... 1:17.375 by Perez.

I think we'll see last years Q3 broken with ease during testing, let alone during the real race weekend in Barcelona. This was a 1:15.406 by Bottas.

Williams is driving! Massive improvement to last year!
Contrary to Vettel, who switched with LeClerq because he's not feeling well enough today.

And I really dig the nose design of the new Renault.

The Renault nose curvature kinda reminds me of the early 90's cars. Not completely of course but it does give of that vibe to me.

Same. And I liked the early to mid 90's designs.

EDIT: Hamilton sets fastest lap in afternoon session and Mercedes ends first day of test with a 1-2, what a surprise:
