    Lightbulb Yet another G27 FFB template

    First of all, as always, i would like to thank everybody who brings valuable information to this forum. It wouldn't be possible without all of you. Most of the settings here where posted then there was still some debates on how FFB tools worked. They were also done on older version of pCars. With that said, you can still have a go at them. I'm using the latest version.

    First part:
    After doing some linear test myself, with multiples inputs, i've found that there's no need to move the Profiler overall strengh. It'll will just put an offset on the force response of the wheel. Since most templates assume that the overall stenght is at 100%, it's probably better to keep it that way. The Scoop Knee and the Deadzone Removal Range are directly tied to this. The Wheel drag is also hardware dependent, but i gotta confess it's borderline user preference.

    Changes from 3.5.3 to 3.5.4
    With 3.5.3, i felt force ramp up around TDC was too slow. It felt a bit too "empty". At the same time, i was getting alot of rattling with the CTR Ruf. With 3.5.4, i think TDC feels tight enough while there's almost no rattling regardless of the wheel position.

    3.5.3 could be better on race cars, with slicks, while 3.5.4 could be better on road cars, with other tires than slicks.

    Changes from 3.5.2 to 3.5.3
    When Jack Spade's posted his latest 3.0 files, i did some fine tuning to deal with added directness of his car FFB. Just a small fine tuning on Deadzone Removal and Scoop Reduction.

    Changes from 3.5.1 to 3.5.2
    I lowered DRF from 0.016 to 0.007. It took too long to the signal to ramp up on turn ins. With that, i was able to get some added weight without losing some understeer feeling.

    Changes from 3.5 to 3.5.1
    It's pretty similar to 3.5 but i tried to deal with rattling while keeping the FFB definition.

    Changes from 3.4.1 to 3.5
    It's been a while since i updated this thread. I also didn't play much this winter. I had the FFB blues and i couldn't really tune anything. Recently, skoader posted version 1.2 of FCM. It gave different Scoops Reduction number so i decided to have a go at his latest numbers. It turned out well! For the first time, i was able to fell understeer nicely with Jack's classic folder. This FFB template is meant for light gripped hands. You won't be wrestling the wheel here. Basically, i copied Jack's suggested globals, from there, i adjusted the globals to fit my G27. I adjusted the wheel drag(pwm(s). I then used some WPS to deal with the rattling. I then lowered RAG a bit to tone down balance road feel while keeping the understeer goodness.

    Positive:
    The FFB is informative accross almost the whole range. Understeer and oversteer is there, rear end steping out under heavy breaking. Kerb feel. You can clearly know what the car is doing under most circumstances.

    Negative:
    I wasn't able to rule out rattling altogether. I think it's a good tradeoff since the wheel is lively, most of the time. You could also say there's a FFB deadzone. However, i don't think it get too much in the way of driving.

    Changes from 3.3.2 to 3.4.1
    After messing way to much with everything, and thinking i was losing my references, i disabled everything and started from scratch. TF and SG only.

    It seems that i didn't understood the wheel calibration process as intended. It's important to do a physical 90 in the 2nd step of the calibration process. It's around 860 for my wheel.

    The first thing i did was to play with TF. I lowered it from 100 until it didn't clip when trowing the RuF CTR, while trail breaking hard, into a curve. While doing that, i tried to yank my wheel to really push the tire load as much as i could. This gave me a TF i knew i could work around. This gave a really precise FFB as soon as it was above the G27's big FFB deadzone. But the setup was far from complete. It was way too loose around TDC.

    In the end, i didn't need addtionnal damping so i left PWM / PWMS @ 0 /0. WPS isn't really needed because i'm using an already smoothed tweaker files. So i left it at 0,01.

    For Deadzone Removals, i went straight by feel instead of using the sheet or FCM, since i'm using Soft Clipping.

    Like i said in earlier version. I still think a G27 is fairly limited and i couldn't really make good use of Relative Adjusts, so i'm still not using it. I'm not saying it's bad tool. I just couldn't dial it to my taste.

    When i redid my Scoops, i found a less "agressive" setup was a bit better. The G27 seems to have a fairly limited FFB range where torque delta will be felt. It meant that i couldn't use as much Scoop Reduction that FCM or the sheet would suggest.

    For Soft Clipping, i was already in a clipping less Tire Force range, so i was able to use small values. After messing with them for a while, with a ratio of around 1:2 SCHI / SCFO, i setled with 0,5 / 1,0. I then had to lower TF just a bit to get the a balance of understeering / overall stiffness. Tradeoffs, tradeoffs, tradeoffs...

    Changed the deadzone of the clutch so it wasn't like an on/off switch.

    Changes from 3.3.1 to 3.3.2
    For simplicity shake, i'm using folder #7, classic -kerbs, this is why i lowered WPS from 0,06 to 0,04.

    Changes from 3.2.2 to 3.3.1
    The G27 is a rather low end wheel by today's standards. It can get overwhelmed pretty quick and when it happends, the FFB isn't sending the right information thru the wheel. For a while, i wanted to deal with some rattling that was occuring on some part of various tracks. I was able to do that just by adding 0.01 of smoothing to Fz and SoPDiff.

    Another thing that i wanted to feel better was oversteer/understeer. I've ran Relative Adjusts for a while. I still think it's a great tool. Right now i prefer Soft Clipping. I wrote earlier that a G27 can't deal with RAs well. I was wrong. What i do think is that it's alot easier to use either of those tools alone. If you mix Relative Adjusts with Soft Clipping, you need to balance and align them. When it's not the case, the FFB will get bland. One tool can disturb the other.

    Suprisingly enough, i've settled with value picked straight from the offical guide. For those values to shine, RAs must be disabled. I tried mixing them but Soft Clipping by itself felt better. It seems that Deadzone Removals and Scoops where already in the right range.

    I could go on and on...

    Changes from 3.2.1 to 3.2.2
    Changed the Gaz sensitivity from 49 to 54(can't save 53 for some reasons). I can't find the post where i found the info. The idea here is to have less sensitivy(more room) on the first part of the brakes. At the same time, you have less sensitivity(more room) at the end of the throtle. This means you can just brake a tiny bit and won't lock the brakes right away. For the throtle, it means you can have more precision near max throtle. It really help with turbo engines where you can quickly catch rear spins when the turbo kicks in.

    Light, yet informative. In 3.2.1, i've put a small touch more of WPS to deal with the rattling, but it seems it also removed some noise. The FFB is a tad better overall.

    Changes from 3.0 to 3.1

    After discussing with skoader, PTG Ty1er Ward et all, i redid the maths for the Scoops and Deadzone Removals.

    I tried to have an overall smooth and not too bland FFB. Well, it was bland.


    • This setup doesn't use Jack's file. You could still use them if you want.


    Changes from 2.2.1to 2.3
    After discussing with skoader, i redid the maths for the Scoops. I regraphed the values so they're inline with the FFB guide. You can see it in the G25/G27 thread.

    This was the starting point for this version. Since i don't think i could go any further math wise, it was time to fine tune my setup so that i could make certain behavior come out. 3 of them came right to me. There's more, i know, but it was getting complicated tuning one aspect without touching the others. I won't list every step i took but it's clear to me now that everything i closely tied up. Using one tool(Scoops, Deadzones Removals, etc...) will affecte the others. It's all a matter of balance. I also needed the help of Jack's standard FFB.

    • Road feel is there without being too present.
    • Understeer feeling can show itself, i tried to get it without having too loose of a wheel.
    • Kerbs, we all love them, thanks Jack!


    Changes from 2.2 to 2.2.1:
    Since patch 2.5, the FFB is much more living and i had to adjust some values. The small forces where a little to present and the wheel was a bit too light. Sadly, this setup can clip under heavy breaking and steering. It's not bothering me that much because you should rarely be in that situation ;-)

    • Tire force went up.
    • Wheel movement changed to be inline with the wheel stiffness.
    • Recalculated Scoops based on DRR.
    • Added new FFB parameters.

    Edit #1 - I had a bit of clipping, so TF 28 to 26. DRF to 0.088.

    One thing you should test is raising the Tire Force, but lowering the Relative Adjust Gain and Relative Adjust Clamp.

    I liked my FFB but i'm back to mess with the FFB again!

    Edit - I'm not touching anything for some time. I think my brain can't input anything anymore! I'll just enjoy pCars now.

    Hey Poirgc ... I've been testing FFB settings in pcars ... have tried a few profiles ... last two were your original one with the 0 scoop knee, and then version 2 here...

    What I've found with my G27 is that the previous 0 scoop knee setup, allowed for a clean feeling when hitting the point of oversteer where you would lose traction... this was mainly in formula rookies... so that level of feedback was great and allowed for more precise driving .. the forces were a little soft/low for my preference, but it worked you know... then with the version 2 you posted above, the wheel feels OK, still a bit soft, but can no longer feel that edge of traction that was there previously...

    having spent quite a few hours in the FFB dark magic now .. I'm at the point where I am considering charting the linearity of the forces of my G27, using wheelcheck and so forth to map it out, and looking more specifically at the individual settings to dial in my own preference...

    soo anyway, the point of my post was really to ask, if you're still running V2 above, and if you could please (or anybody with proven knowledge) provide some pointers on the settings I should consider first in order to get the clear feeling of traction braking and the wheel feeling loose... the slip-point if you will ?

    Is this the V1 version you're talking about?

    I did thoses setup while aiming for wheel linear response. I've spent alot of time trying to understand how deadzone removal and scoop knee work together(i don't have a final answer). Afterwards, i tried to make the wheel the more "natural" where it would behave not too quickly in a race context.

    I have to confess that i don't feel i'm ready to tackle this traction/understeer feeling yet.

    Right now i'm using 2.1(updated 2nd post).

    Graphing your wheel is a good idea, it's fairly easy with wheelcheck and google sheet.

    I really don't know the outcome, but i wonder how, just for a test, increasing the steering ratio to the max, of you favorite car would make the FFB behave?

    The more i think of it, i think it would be the part where you tweak per car FFB. If my calculations about the wheel FFB where good, that it was able to output the best range it can, you could now tweak FFB per car in your garage and play with (​Fx Scale​) (​Fy Scale​) (​Fz Scale​) (​Mz Scale​).

    This would help you feel the forces you want.

    V 2.2

    I think this will be the last update i do before the next patch.

    The first thing different is that after all, there's no need to put the profiler force to something else than 100%. This leads to a recalculation of the Deadzones and Scoops values. Those 2 could still changes at some point if we get more knowledge about them. I've also setled with jack's standard files.


    Profiler FFB overall strenght 100%
    900 wheel rotation
    Allow game to adjusts settings
    Everything else turned off.

    Tire Force 36 - Adjusted TF to get below clipping.


    Per Wheel Movement 0.00
    Per Wheel Movement Squared 0.00
    Wheel Smoothing 0.02 - Change thoses 2 setting because i was getting wheel acceleration as i got faster. The wheel would start to oscillate when i was in a straight line while letting my hands off the wheel. It can be there on some cars.


    Deadzone Removal Range 0.17
    Deadzone Removal Falloff 0.085 I recalculated the deadzone range closer to the start of the slope.


    Linkage Scale 0.0 (Linkages disabled with scale at 0)
    Linkage Stiffness 1.0
    Linkage Damping 1.0


    Relative Adjust Gain 0.98
    Relative Adjust Bleed 0.15
    Relative Adjust Clamp 0.96


    Scoop Knee 0.39
    Scoop Reduction 0.49 - I tried the calculate the Scoop reduction base on slope that take DRR into account. This may change in the future.


    Soft Clipping (half input)0.0
    Soft Clipping (full input)0.0

    In control / configuration

    Everything is set to 48 sensitivity and 1 deadzone. Steering deadzone is at 0


    I run this with Jack's standard FFB files.

    Hello there.

    After having several issues s since the latest patch I gave your v2.1 settings a try and they worked great. I'll have to give 2.2 a whirl when I'm back from work. Thanks for taking the time making this post to help others out.
