    Audi 90 IMSA GTO sound

    First of all, I'm really enjoying the new DLC. Thanks a lot. In the Audi 90 quattro, what exactly is the sound that I hear when I let of the gas or shift? It kinda sounds like a rubber duck or something. Is that the turbo?

    That's the BOV(Blow off valve) venting boost pressure to the atmosphere.

    I appreciate those enjoying my Custom Liveries... but, please don't send me livery requests in PM's. I don't do liveries on request. Sorry.

    As above, by Alan Dallas. Its the Blow off Valve.

    The Audi 90 IMSA GTO uses the same engine (basicly) as was used in the legendary Audi S1 quattro Rally car, so it sounds like it.

    Not only the same engine, but also the same "torsen" differential system was used in the Audi 90 IMSA GTO.
    Torsen = Torques sensitive

    On another note... The car should be louder.

    Here is a good explanation of how a Blow Off Valve works.

    BTW this is only explaining the charge / Air side of a turbo system. So it doesn't mention anything how a turbo create boost pressure.

    So you may also need to understand how a turbo works as well so here is another video for reference.

    And your parents said that playing video games wasn't educational.......

    To be fair, I was only referring to the "BOV" sound. The car actually sounds great.

    Back in those days, they didn't run blow off valves. The noise you're hearing is compressor surge.Even the F1 hand grenade engines running 60psi never had one.

    It is not a BOV. A blow of valve sounds different, more like the sound when you open a pressurized can.

    The sound you hear in game is compressor surge. When the throttle is closed the compressed air has no where to go but back out of the turbo, thats the sound you are hearing.

    A bit disappointing with the sound is the spooling sound. It's hard to hear in lots of cars and in something with a decent size turbo, on the in car view, the turbo spool should be louder than the engine itself.

    Another mistake with the sound is that when you re-apply throttle, the compressor surge sound should stop because the throttle is open and the air no longer escapes through the turbo.

    If you want to hear how a big turbo, external waste gate and compressor surge sound, watch this... and note when he gets back on the power you no longer hear the decompression from turbo (either by compressor surge or BOV).. Pcars does not accurately model this.
