And that is why mining has altered pricing thinking.....Quote 'I'll be getting a big boost for less than a 1080Ti would have cost me only a few months ago.'

Yeah, it's not that long ago that 1080Tis were around the 1000 mark, if you could find one at all. If you get into PC gaming/simming, it's just going to cost you money, and sure we'd all like to pay less, but look at RAM prices. When I first built this system a couple of years ago I paid 40 to put 16GB memory in it (8GB of which was given away free with the motherboard!) but even if I'd had to pay for both it would have been 80 and it's currently double that price for exactly the same sticks.
Anyway I'm quite happy with the move to the 2080, although if I'd been on a 1080 or 1080Ti I don't think it would have been worth doing. I've had two good years out of the 1070, and I'll still get something back on that as well.
I'm going to run a few tests on the current system before I slot the new card in, to get a better idea of the difference.

Interesting. I have a 1080 and I've been debating whether or not the 2080 was worth it, or if I should just get a 1080ti. You don't think the gain on the 2080 would be worth the price?

I’m gonna wait on the next gen cards. I think the 1080ti is sufficient for now and I do not see the need to pull out my wallet again. Nevertheless is raytracing a nice addition of course..

I'll continue the discussion over here so as not to take this thread too far off topic
