    DIY racingseat in mdf wood

    Hi,

Im about to build my own racingseat, I came a cross a cheap seat, so now I want to make a nice and cheap racing cockpit.

I want it to include following:
    - the pedals should be lifted above the seat height, to get a more horisontal pose.
    - must be adjustable.
    - must be possbile to build in wood, mdf.
    - must have wheels for easily moving arround.

I have made a, not so pretty, prototype to figure out where it all should be placed.

And then made these 3d drawings to figure out how it should work.

If anyone have any god ideas or solutions I have not come a cross, feel free to share, before I start cutting out the parts.

By the way, the gearstick, could be made as a attachable module on the side.

One of my worries is that will be har d to get out of.

Looks good, but that seat looks so uncomfortable and I think I could snap the back off under heavy braking..
You might want to make the back rest adjustable on the angle too.

Move to the Driver Network area as that's where the "rigs" discussions have been happening.

Agreed, don't get why it's curved? Looks like complication and added weakness.

I was going for a "Play seat f1 version" like this:

But as a wood DIY version and without a center pole to the wheel.

here is my prototype setup to figure out where to put stuff. Not made to be pretty :-)

But where would your monitor/screen go, looks like it would have to be about 8' in the air?

Personally I think that playseat looks awfully uncomfortable.

It can be slided under my normal computer table, all the way to the wheel base.
I have to use my pc to other things than pc gaming, thats why it needs to have wheels and be movable.

Im thinking about making it slimmer, and I have already redrawn the wheel base holder to a more simple stand. can upload a picture tonight.

Im almost done... though first tests call for a few adjustments.

Even though I did make a "prototype" first to place everything correct, I still have to adjust, the seat height vs the wheel. Think there is room left too lower the seat a bit, like 5 cm or so.

As some suggested, I have made it possible to change the seat angle, if I ever wants to.

will upload some better pictures over the weekend.

    Im now done.

After alot of "tests", I finally took it apart and painted it. It was supposed to be black, but it ended up as a dark blueist grey. But I kinda like the color.

I also made a "floor" to the feets.

I ended up, only to have small turnable wheels in the front, so it was easier to move it away. I fits my desk perfectly in height, and when my new screen arrives, I will mount it, so it can be moved to the edge of the desk, to get it up close.

I have also taped my phone stand to the stearing wheel housing, to get a perfect lap time viewer right in front of me.

What I've learned, is that even if I tried to make it al kinds of adjustable and "fits all", then it will proberly only fit me (170cm) and other shorter than 180cm, but who cares its for me :-)

    Here are some final pictures.
