    Historically accurate car track combinations

The Classic Lotus track expansion got me wondering: Which historically accurate car – track combinations can I play in project CARS?

I did a little research which I’d like to share with you. (This list is nowhere near complete, but it may be a nice start for other members to share their historic motorsport knowledge and post other historically accurate car – track combinations possible in project CARS.)

I enjoy driving these historically accurate car – track combinations as it not only re-enacts a piece of history, it also gives me the opportunity to compare my own laptimes to the all-time great of motorsport.

    Lotus 98T - 1986 German Grand Prix - Lap time: 1:42.329

    Don't the Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo2 DTM and BMW M3 Gr.A (E30) "belong" at Hockenheim? And the McLaren F1 GTR (1997)?

    Thanks for the suggestion David.

The Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo2 DTM was active in the DTM from 1990-1993 (1), alongside the BMW M3 group A E30. In 1991 they ran the 2nd DTM round on the full Hockenheimring layout. (2)

Thanks for your suggestion David. I’ve added this historically accurate car – track combination to the opening post and credited you.

The McLaren F1 GTR was active during 1995 1997 (1) but project CARS features the 1989 - 1991 version of the Hockenheimring.*

    * There was a bit of confusion on my part whether the Hockeheimring classic layout was the 1989-1991 or the 1992-2001 version.
Thanks to Pappa_Stig for pointing this out.(See post #37)

This is always fun. Obviously it is not historically accurate as we drive the new track, but sliding the Yellowbird around that track in this game is very enjoyable.

    Nice!

My best lap on Rouen-Les-Essarts with the Lotus 49 is 2:01.621 so far, with manual shifting, clutch and standard setup. (Pretty close to the 2:00.3 by J. Siffert in 1968. )
I've tried Silverstone classic with the Lotus 78 and managed a lap of 1:20.055 (again manual shifting, clutch and standard setup).

I'm really impressed how close this game comes to reality! Great job SMS!
