    CV1 980ti & 4690k CPU Bottleneck?

    Hi all,

I think my CPU is bottle necking, for normal gaming this is nearly unheard of with a 4690k @ 4.3GHz and 980ti although the mixture of project cars & VR seem to cause issues when lots of other cars are around.

Sadly the best CPU that will work in my motherboard is the i7 4690k anyone have any idea of how much of an improvement this should give.

I think it's the CPU as the GPU if no where near it's max and the CPU graph is not quick enough to show the peaks?

    Thanks,
    i5-4690K @ 4.3GHz - GTX 980TI
Thrustmaster TX - T3PA Pro Pedals
    Microsoft Windows 10 - RIFT CV1

I upgraded from an old 2500k (4.5GHz) to an i7-6700k over the weekend, re-used my 980Ti. I can't speak to your specific processor, but on my 2500k, PCars would load up the 4 cores to 100%, and the GPU would be around 40 to 45% loaded. After my upgrade, now my CPU is loaded around 45%, and the GPU can load up to around 95%. And I can finally maintain 90FPS rock solid with DS4X, even with a FULL grid of 31 AIs.

it might be worth upgrading your MOBO and CPU. Your 980 Ti will still be very capable for a couple more years.

You will see marginal benefit to a CPU upgrade.

for normal 1080p or even 4k I would agree but with VR is seems to stress the CPU much more, also a hiccup of one frame is really noticeable

This is what I am seeing on my 4790K oc to 4.9ghz. Within normal playing the processor hits avg 46-52% with my SLI 980TI oc to 1465. in 4K field of 20 cars

In VR my CPU now avg 58-66% with the CV1.

So I am in the process of acquiring a i7-6900K to see if I can benefit with the extra cores. Maybe someone with a 5960X can chime in on the load in VR.
