IM looking to build a new computer soon as my i5-2500k is already showing signs of age with maxed out graphics. Coupled with SimVibe software, IR head tracking, telemetry and other add-ons, idk if an i5 will cut it anymore. The question is what kind of cpu project cars will favor, single core performance or multi core/thread performance. That would be the deciding factor between an i7 or the new Ryzen chips.
    CPU: Intel i5-2500k @ 4.4Ghz | GPU: MSI Gaming X GTX 1070 | RAM: G.Skill 1600Mhz DDR3 8gb | OS: Windows 10 x64 |
Display: Oculus Rift | Wheel: Thrustmaster T500RS | Pedals: Fanatec Clubsport Elite Inverted| Cockpit: GTR GTA Driving Simulator - SimVibe - 2x Buttkicker Advance - iNuke 1000dsp |HOTAS: Thrustmaster T16000m FCS

The Ryzen 7 CPUs are like X99 CPUs. They're essentially home workstation parts. I wouldn't recommend anyone get a Ryzen 7 for a gaming rig. If you can wait for Ryzen 5, you might be better off. Or, just get a 7600K or 7700K if you can;t wait.

I can't imagine pcars 2 be more demanding than pcars1 by very much, but I think everyone is in the dark right now until the game releases. I'm going to wait until benchmarks are out myself before upgrading. How are your FPS with a 4k monitor and at what graphics settings/aa? Im thinking about going up to 4k for pcars 2.

I'm guessing the CPU requirements could be a little bit more demanding because of the Live Track 3.0 implementation...

nothing if you plan on 1080p gaming. "Just" the gpu if you truly aim for your native 4k tv (then I would recommend you to wait for the nvidia 1080ti, which will display 4k graphics all maxed out without suffering like the standard 1080)

what's your psu? I don't see it in your sig. It's just in case you would go for the 1080ti, to recommend you a good Seasonic
