    System requirements

    Hi,

I wasn't sure whether this should be posted here or in the technical help forum - I'm building a system to game on, I don't consider myself a hardcore gamer but this is a game I'd like to play.

I've seen some races on Youtube for Project Cars - GT3 races etc.... This is Project cars and not Project Cars 2? - Is this correct.

    OK - I've bought a GPU quite a good one - nVidia 1060 GTX FTW+ 6 GB GDDR5

I'm planning on 1920 x 1080 Acer Predator 144 Hz refresh rate Gsync monitor - Maybe even having two or heaven forbid 3 monitors - Not sure

    CPU will either be 4790k / Z97 1150 or 5820k / X99 / 2011-3

This is my first gaming system that I am building so am unsure need great advice - nVidia cards can be connected together in series / SLi

    Will 1060 GTX be enough - ?

What are the typical setups used that I see on Youtube with the likes of Yorkie / F1 Masa / etc..... super smooth game play -

Thanks in advance lets get this sorted

Moved it here as you might get a better response.

    OK

How much of a gain is there between GTX 1060 & GTX 1070

I'll be using 1920 x 1080 - There are differences of opinions - As this is the "official forum" this is the place to ask - Thanks

Would adding a 2nd GPU card make a big difference to the frames per second? - so using 2 x GTX 1060 instead of 1

I did find something in a sticky at the top of the forum that suggested SLI mode is not working - Is this something that is likely to change?

Some people have mentioned Project Cars is not well optimized - It'd be good to hear from people who have played the game online and raced with others - Thanks

It would be good to hear from others if they are using Gsync monitors as well

2 X 1060 is a non starter as they don't support SLI in hardware (something that uses the multi GPU feature of DX12 is a different matter, but they are few and far between)

Basically, buy the fastest single card you can afford (1080s have had a major price drop due to the 1080Ti coming out, but that hasn't made a lot of difference to the 1070).. 2x1060 shouldn't be a lot different price wise to a single 1080 now..

    i7 4770K - ASUS Z87-A - 16Gig DDR3 (2x 8G Crucial Ballistix PC3-12800) - ZOTAC GTX1080Ti FE with EVGA Hybrid Cooler - iiiyama ProLite B2783QSU - Oculus Rift CV1 - Samsung 840 250G SSD , WD 320G Blue, WD 2T Black, OCZ 120G Vertex 2 SSD, LiteOn iHAS122 DVD-RW - Creative Audigy 4 - Creative 5.1 speaker system - Logitech G19 - MS HABU Gaming Mouse - Fanatec GT3 RS V2 + Clubsport pedals + shifter set - Windows 10 Home (64 bit).

    Second machine used for additional testing. i7-4790T - Asus H97-Plus - 16G DDR3 PC-12800 - Gigabyte GTX1060 - iiyama Prolite E2607WS - Oculus Rift CV1 - W10 Pro (64 bit) - xbox360 pad or Logitech DFP (all at stock speeds)

    HTPC - For testing of Steam Big Picture Mode (Hopefully from Media Portal 2) - i3-4130T - ASUS H81M-C - 8G DDR3 PC-10666 - Gigabyte GTX1050Ti - Windows 10 Home (64 bit) - xbox360 pad

    Hi,

Will SLI be supported any time soon?

I'm new to this game - Not even bought it yet - But I'm building a system

So you say there is a multi GPU feature in DX12 that is used in Project Cars - There is Project Cars 2 as well - Is 2 the same as 1 but with more features?

I've just got myself a GTX 1060 but was wandering if 1070 is a lot better? - I can return it and upgrade if need be - But if 2 x 1060's could be used in future I can get another 1060

How many more FPS is achieved with 2 x GPU

I've seen league racing on Youtube - Is this Project Cars or Project Cars 2 - Any info - I'd like to play at some point - That's why I'm here!

No, I said there are a very small number of DX12 games that allow for multi GPU without SLI (in fact it should allow you to mix make as well as model of GPUs).
The games have to be using DX12, they have to be written to allow DX12 Multi GPU and they have to have appropriate driver support...
PCars and PCars 2 are NOT DX12 (SLI and Crossfire ARE supported and will continue to be), DX12 multi GPU will NOT work in non DX12 games.

The 1060 was designed without the SLI bridge, so does not support traditional SLI under most game (so 2 wouldn't work together with any current SLI enabled games, including PCars 1)

As I said, stop worrying about SLI and just go with the fastest single card

    Thanks for the replies

The cards are quite pricey - I thought the GTX 1060 would run the game easily - I think it'll be OK but GTX 1070 would be slightly better - From looking at Youtube videos with FPS counts there wan't much difference between 1070 and 1080

There was a difference of 5-10 fps between 1060 and 1070

I did read about the SLI so I'm aware of that - I've got a GTX 1060 just arrived - But could change it for a 1070 which would cost an extra 100 - As I've not played the game I can't comment so I can only comment on what I've seen on Youtube

Is there much difference between 1060 / 1070 / 1080 actually playing the game? - I would use G sync as well - Any helpful info appreciated and like mentioned I could return my 1060 to upgrade to 1070 / 1080 but I'd like to know what other users think because they may have used both

Yes for a single screen the 1060 runs fine... I run a 1920x1200 screen and can basically run a full field of AI at LeMans in a thunder storm without dropping too much FPS wise.. then again I don't turn all the settings to max and expect 200 FPS from that card.. it's all about expectations and keeping within what your PC can cope with (or expect to watch a slideshow).. F.Y.I, I can actually run the same field on my 750Ti, just at low settings and still it's playable.

    Card prices..
    1060 (6 gig) from around 225-300
    1070 from around 370 to 575
1080 from 465 to 600+ (which is 100-150 lower than a week ago thanks to the 1080Ti release)

In theory the 1080 has twice the grunt of the 1060 (6G) - but that doesn't translate always to twice the FPS, but it does give you more options, like higher settings in poor weather or going VR, which is another non starter with SLi at the moment.... again, possible in theory, not so much in practice at the moment. (the 1060 should do VR OK.. but I haven't tried it on mine, but it works OK on my 980.. although I'm actually about to upgrade that)

Personally I've never bothered with SLi , I've preferred the faster single card route and then update every couple or three years (expensive hobby)

Well SLI is out for me due to 1060 not supporting it so it's not an option

So you have an 1060, 980 and 650
