GTX 1070, AMD FX-8350, 16GB - VR Oculus (20-40 FPS Low Settings) Help?

So I recently picked up a VR head, specifically the Oculus Rift, but I've been having massive performance issues with it. Prior to using the rift I played on a 144hz, G-Sync 1440p Monitor with most games maxing out at 144fps at high-ultra settings, but since moving to VR, the same setup, specifically on Project Cars, averages 20-45 FPS on the lowest settings.

The resolution is set to 1920x1080.
Super Sampling, between 1 and 1.5 makes no noticeable difference in FPS, maybe 5 or so.
    Texture quality is High.
    Texture filtering is x16.
Car and Track quality is High.
Everything else is set to absolute minimum.

A friend, using the same GPU as me, is able to get much, much higher FPS, closer to 80-90, with higher settings. All my drivers are up to date, I've checked Nvidia control panel settings, running cortex, defraging PC, reinstalling windows, verifying cache, changing graphics/resolutions, etc.

I don't know what's causing it. With or without ASW, my frames seem to cap at 45, but most of the time sit in the 30s. Any ideas? Really frustrating playing with such a laggy experience.

Don't remember exactly, some i5. Though my CPU isn't even close to max load, it's around 50-60% max.

CPU does have an impact on Project Cars especially in VR (m on i5 too). The CPU has to be kept free from doing anything else except for PCars hence I started using Razer's Game Booster (never believed in Game Boosters b4 starting to play AAA Games in VR) but it has helped me cut down to none on random lags\warps\de-sync whatever u wanna call it. One more thing you can try with regards to CPU is to set priority of PCars process to High via Task Manager (don't bother going above that as it messes the game)

For tweaking graphics settings the simplest way to find your sweet spot is Nvidia Geforce Experience (stay with me) next to Optimize button there's a wrench click on it and it will allow you step down your graphics settings a notch step by step without having to understand or tinker with individual settings in the game or having set everything to low - test it by running a quick race (full grid) and see how it goes.

    Hope this helps.

Are you spanning your displays (if you have triples) with surround? If yes that killed Assetto Corsa with rift.
