I don't know you noticed the same, but for some unknown reason, the Sun wake up or get asleep over most crucial tracks parts. usually blinding you in very difficult corners or so

BTW I'm using chroma flare only (cockpit view)
E.g. multiclass LMP1, LMP2, GTE at Spa and start at 8AM with sun, mid cloud, sun. 60x time speed. I was enjoying the sun and environment in my Jumbo LMP2 so much that I missed some corners....But so beautiful.

Even with my 1080Ti OC I cannot sustain 90fps at the race start.
Almost everything is at low in the Performance settings (not the track or the cars details either)

    And

    SS@1.0!

    What a shame...

But after the start I can get 90fps...
That sort of scenario is just about the heaviest hit you can get. Night and wet, means you'll get all the headlights behind you casting shadows, as well as the reflections in the water. Combine that with a tree-heavy circuit like Oulton and, yeah, it's a bit of a killer. As you say, once the start is done, the cars spread out a bit and you get less of the dynamic lights at play and less stuff reflected, ergo, better frame rates. The only solutions, maintaining the same scenario, are going to be:

    1. More powerful hardware
    and/or
    2. Removal of headlights casting dynamic shadows

The first option is really the only realistic one on the cards. Removing the headlights casting shadows will only lead to an outcry of "downgrading the graphics". The problem we face is that once we've had something, it's very difficult to go back to not having it, so as much as many people might say "graphics aren't the most important thing", they will certainly miss these kinds of details if they are removed.

As much as it would be nice to have our cake and eat it, there simply aren't the resources available in our systems to do so right now. I can but hope that the next generation of GPUs will finally bring enough horsepower to run things pretty much maxed out. It's why I've stuck with my DK2 and 980GTX for the time being, knowing from others in our league that even 1080ti cards can't drive 90fps all of the time.

With x60 you had opportunity admire the scene rather than to feel that pain.
We usually run with x10 which gives about 4 laps with a Sun into eyes. But once we did it with x2 only. And it was really painful. But realistic so I was very satisfied.

I've definitely put my hand up to shield the sun glare in VR and then been suprised that the VR hand didn't move. I've also tried looking at my wristwatch in VR, but that's probably because I'm a bit stupid.

I should dig my list of "stupid things I've done whilst wearing VR in pCARS" again

I think my favourite is reaching out to cool my hands on the car's air vent. I absolutely haven't done that a ton of times, no, not me, nosiree.

My personal favourite happened when I stopped in a corner on Nurb to wait for a friend to catch up. I parked the car so that I could see him com round the corner through my left side window. While waiting I felt bored and thought it´d be a good idea to lean my left elbow on the window bottom edge. When to my surprise there was no resistance under my arm I could hardly manage not to fall off my chair.
