We talk a lot about the hardware, but I think the software on the rift is very well designed, and allows you to get the absolute best out of the headset. When you have to run a game through Steam VR on the rift it does seem less smooth overall. I've had my rift for nearly two years now, and I have to say although I love it, the lack of resolution is the thing I am most unhappy with (states the obvious). I keep my eyes peeled for CV2 or something equivalent, but that still seems a way off unfortunately, total silence on that front.

One of the main problems I think, is that the entry price for a good VR capable PC is still very high due to the GPU shortage/mining, so whereas Oculus et al might have expected the entry price to become much lower two years down the line, the hike in memory and GPU prices have stalled progress a bit.

The fixed foveated rendering in the new Oculus Go does seem like a neat solution though, hopefully that might push things on a bit for the next wave of displays.

Hi guys, for those in the know. I have an Odyssey and was looking to use it instead of my Rift. Can someone tell me how to use the Dev Portal? I've downloaded it but cannot see anything that lets me select Performance to check if I'm getting 90hz?
    Thanks in advance

I've just ordered the Rift due to Black Friday special to use with Pcars2. However now I've just found out about WMR headsets, and the Odyssey.
Its been nearly 8 months since the last discussion, how is the Odyssey working in PCars2 now? Anyone else get one?

dont mind. Oculus is the better solution

Don't mind the last reply. WindowsMR works, great, it's cheap, and in the case of the Odyssey, the quality is way better.

While his reply is a bit jackassy, he is more or less right, especially for sim racing. Higher resolution headset, more of a chance that your system will not keep up and you end up dropping frames. Great if you want to sit there and nail settings down for every single weather/track/car combo to keep frames stable but more times than not your going to end up dropping frames. Not sold on tracking and software with WMR - plus some wonky FFB stuff with WMR and alt tabbing. Oculus is worth it for ASW alone IMO. Tracking is amazing and while quality/res maybe lacking in todays time you can compensate with PPI settings and higher graphics settings in general running in a lower resoultuion with the CV1. Wouldn't call the Odyseey cheap at $450 on Amazon.

WMR is a great way to get into VR and a nice stop gap until next gen Vive/Oculus hit shelves...and until GPU/CPU power hits the power mark.

For your information Windows MR has it's own ASW (you need to enable it in config files) and it works great. Tracking is spot on perfect for sim racing. 95% as good for hand controllers. And everyone agrees that the Samsung Odyssey+, outside of the ergonomics, has the best screen in the market right now.

I just got the Odyssey+ after having the Rift for 18 months and concur with the above. It works perfectly with PC2 and the WMR version of motion smoothing works as good (if not better) then Oculus ASW.
