The Windows 10 patch is now out by the way (not sure about earlier versions) as Microsoft have released it early, following public disclosure of working code to exploit the flaw.

Sadly, I can't see Intel replacing all the faulty chips with 'good' ones and no doubt this will hurt their reputation. For 5 minutes, before the general public forgets about it.

    Correct.
The old gamers like me, may well remember the famous "Pentium floating-point bug", or "Pentium FDIV bug" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_FDIV_bug
Now that was a BIG bug too... but I don't remember Intel gone bakrupt and sell all their assets at a 1-dollar store because of it.

AMD has one of the two flaws. I'm not that worried about the flaws really. I think I'll opt out of the patch just in case it will hurt performance. If someone manages to put a program on my computer that uses the flaws, it's my fault.

My proc gained some extra performance after the patch instead of 5-30% looses as stated in the news. I would not be that afraid to patch the drivers and flash the BIOS. I did and it works without any problems.

No perceivable change in performance for me either.
