Peripheral Vision - Loss of Objects - VR

    Hi guys,

Firstly, massive thanks to SMS for the new patch and for a great racing sim.

Secondly, does anyone still get objects disappearing / re-appearing around the peripheral of the viewable area in their Rifts?

I know the idea of dropping the FOV to 35 degrees was supposed to fix it, but it doesn't seem to have done the job. It might have done a while ago, i cant remember, but it certainly doesn't at the moment.

I have just been driving one of the American circuits and the large sponsor boards / parts of buildings are popping on / off when i look around etc, which is effecting the immersion for me.

Has anyone got a fix for this please or is this just how it is?

    Many thanks.

I haven't really noticed roadside things, but I have observed this in cars with a 'rear camera' screen, a slight glance to the left and the screen goes black.

I don't know the idea of dropping the FOV though, do you mean the normal camera FOV which isn't used for VR, or something else?

    Hello FxUK,

    Thanks for the reply.

I am finding that on any track, parts of the 3D models disappear and then re-appear, its like they are getting culled as the program thinks they are out of view etc.

I've found this online for Fallout4, seems it a common issue for people with Rift...

The camera i play in is Cockpit, but i believe it happens with all camera angles.

Yeah, its the same sort of thing and it probably is happening with other objects for me too, I just notice it a lot with the in-vehicle screens.
I basically see it 'turn on/off the screen' which is clearly for performance reasons, but it would be nice if it allowed a little more side to side looking before it did so. My head movements are usually no more than the default look to apex (quite low), I could understand if I was looking sharply left/right quickly, but with only minor glancing.. it can be quite distracting.
It's not a huge deal though, hence me never posting about it. I get so immersed in VR, I tend to look past the minor drawbacks

Ah, for some reason i kept thinking they were camera positions.

Are you sure the recommended FOV setting was 35? I know changing it fixed the popup, it is really bad on some tracks.

    Hello Rosko,

I think it was in the VR thread someone mentioned that this would work, i will play around with the FOV later.

This is not a problem or a bug, its a feature... from ATW/Reprojection, if you hit below 90fps mark ATW/Reprojection activated (not 100% sure about Reprojection, since using Oculus API)
and objects vanish faster in the corners.

First of all it most certainly is a problem. Secondly, pretty sure it has nothing to do with asw. This is simply SMS trying to reduce frame rates by cutting objects in one eye. It can be reduced by altering fOV.
