Windows Mixed reality VR tips to achieve 90fps

    Hi guys/girls

I waited really long for the Launch of Project Cars 2 in September last year and I am completely in love with the game.

I built myself a PC for sim racing and just got my HP VR headset from Amazon and my Palit GTX1080ti locally.

    Specs as follows

    -Phanteks P400S chassis
    -MSI PC mate B350 motherboard
    -AMD Ryzen 1600x 3.9GHZ OC
    -Corsair H60 watercooler
    -Gskill Trident-z 3200mhz 2x8GB
    -Palit Jetstream GTX1080ti (slight oc)
    -Corsair 650psu
    -1TB WD Black
    -1TB WD Blue
    -250GB Samsung SSD
    -LG 29" Ultra wide monitor
    -HP microsoft Mixed reality
    -Logitech G27
    -Hyper x cloud 2 headset

With me living in South Africa I ordered the HP headset from Amazon.com. Everything went well until it landed without the controllers. They refunded me 100% and said I can keep the headset for free. Which is awesome because I bought it for racing sims with no initial intention of really using the controllers too much. With that extra R4000 ZAR I upgraded my 1070 to the 1080ti with a bit of savings left.

Ok, to the point of this post. I've been struggling myself to bits with my VR performance unable to hit 90fps anywhere near the settings the other guys are using. Even with Super Sampling x1 and almost all low settings. Steam VR showing crazy red spikes in the frame timing graph with CPU late starts. This struggle has been going on for over a week since I got the 1080 ti.

After way too much research I finally figured it out and I'm hoping these screenshots will help somebody out with a similar setup.

I can now do Road America with 22 opponents, morning time at a constant 90fps with very seldom slight drops in rain/thunder to 87-89 fps.

This is a setup I aimed for as I don't need to adjust graphical settings if a wet race comes rolling past and looks brilliant on the WMR.

I don't understand how other guys can claim VR with all high/ultra settings with a 1080ti. I honestly think some people can't tell the difference between 45fps and a locked 90fps.

The HP Mixed reality headset runs at a resolution of 1593x1593 per eye in Steam VR by default at SS x1. So that's a total combined resolution of 3186x1593 that the 1080 TI must cope with.

With the actual native resolution of 2880x1440p.( 4.15 megapixels, aspect ratio 16:9) Compared to the rift with a native resolution of 2160x1200 (2.59 megapixels, aspect ratio 16:9).

That equals to a x1.6 resolution bump over the Rift.

First off is pics of the settings outside the game. Nvidia control panel, Windows and Steam VR.

    - Nvidia driver version 388.59
    - Nvidia control Panel VIRTUAL REALITY PRE-RENDERED FRAMES : X2
    - Nvidia control Panel POWER MANAGEMENT MODE "prefer maximum performance

    -Windows Power plan "high performance"
-Windows High peformance power plan Advanced settings "USB Selective suspend Disabled"

-Windows default enabled XBOX DVR disabled via REG EDIT.

    -Steam VR
    Async disabled,
    Interleaved reprojection disabled,
Always-on reprojection enabled. (Does not limit to 45 FPS and takes a load of the CPU. Silky smooth 90fps)

-Windows Mixed reality portal Visual Quality HIGH

    Project Cars 2 graphical settings.

Steam VR Launch Options command "vrnomirror"(massive boost in FPS. Navigate menu with keyboard or Gaze control and buttons on steering wheel.

So that is it for my 1080 TI, Ryzen 1600x and Project Cars 2. After loads of time I think I found the glory road to buttery smooth racing.

If anybody wants to give this a try with similar setup can you post your results?

Last but not least, just because I'm so damn proud, a few photo's of my Sim rig.

    Cheers guys

Signed up specifically to say thank you for these settings!!!! I have a 1080Ti and a Samsung Odyssey and was appalled at how poorly PC2 ran compared to other sims that support VR. Was just about to throw in the towel until I found this thread. This really needs to be stickied! Took me from 0 to hero!

Edit: Your rig looks awesome btw!

Hey Brinkman, thanks for posting this. I love having all this information.

Have you tried your setting in different tracks? I'm just curious. Take a look at my two posts here http://forum.projectcarsgame.com/sho...=1#post1511351 and here http://forum.projectcarsgame.com/sho...=1#post1511999

Same setting, different tracks. The first one 90FPS pretty much the entire race. The second race mostly reprojecting. I'm going to check my SteamVr setting to see how different they are from yours tonight.

One thing I didn't see in your setting is what you have the PCars 2 setting in SteamVr Application area. If you have yours at the default of 100% that would make a huge difference to my settings since mine is set to 130%.
