Game Streaming (Cloud Gaming): is it a good thing?

With Ubisoft and Microsoft already seeing a future in game streaming (game running on a server and sending audio/video to your home, and you your input to the server), and probably more gaming related organisations, I wanted to raise the topic here.

To be blunt. I am really against this.
Most people will firstly think about the latency being way too high, and they are right! It is a very valid reason to first and foremost being against remote real-time computing of games.

My biggest gripe comes from all the subscriptions needed now. We need Netflix for her who likes to watch Games of Thrones, while he wants to have Amazon Prime to watch The Grand Tour and Jay Leno's Garage. Lastly you would need a Crunchyroll and/or Disney subscription for anime and cartoons.

Now because you like games on both consoles and the kids like Nintendo games you have all consoles. So you need a subscription for Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo. Than you need for PC Gaming one for Steam, one for every big publisher (EA, Ubisoft, Microsoft, Bandai Namco, Codemasters, etc etc).

The amount of money you have to spend!!! It truly boggles my mind.

Personally I think people will have to make choices financially because of this, if they start to really push this. Which might be the end of some big names, because they won't be as successful anymore.
Also if niche market games like racing simulation games are spread across multiple streaming platforms, I think it will kill or at least split the racing sim community. With people not even willing to try other options because of the costs.

So yeah, from an end-user perspective the latency and more so the financial aspect will make this uninteresting. If it does take flight I fear splitting the gaming community apart and in the long run a lot of companies will bite the dust.

What do you chaps think of the new phenomenon that is about to be pushed, game streaming?

Because they have a devil's contract with your internet Service Provider to drive you into bigger and more expensive super-duper-fast-and-ultra-broadband contracts.

So with game streaming you mean playing a game with a constant online connection, or what? Central server doing all the calculations for you and only sending you the graphics/audio when you play the game which is clearly impossible when millions of people play a game? I don't get it? We already have streaming, meaning watching game video live?

The game running on a server in a server park, and is litterly streamed like with a Steam Link to your computer or console.
So yes, a server calculating everything and sending the output to you and you sending your input to the server.

I edited the OP to make it more clear.

Not going to happen IMO except for very simple games and/or games with very few players at one time.

And if it's going to happen, I won't be part of it.

The Ubisoft Ceo thinks differently though. I read this on Gamer.NL but this is an English source.

Microsoft had a similar announcement and so on.

Ah OK so it's about replacing consoles. So solving a problem that they created themselves in the first place (sub-par hardware with too long life cycle) with something that is taking all ownership and control from their customers even more than consoles are already doing now. As said, I won't be part of that.

Me neither, I also won't go along with this.

Also EA is for Origin Premium, so I guess it will be getting an automatic extension from all of them to PC, thus it not being only console as talked about primarily.

Here is the Microsoft related news: https://www.theverge.com/2018/6/10/1...teaser-e3-2018
