    Graphics settings for geforce 970GTX

Would very much like some advice for PC2 graphics settings to make the best performance out of this setup: Win7, i5-4690, 3,50 GHz, 8 GB RAM with nvidia geforce 970GTX on a 50" LG plasma (!). Also running a 7" LCD for dashboard on low-res and 8bit.

Advice for nvidia settings and tips on hardware upgrades are also welcomed.

trial and error on a lot of things, but some stuff off the bat you can turn down/off are:
    Environmental Map: Medium or lower
    Detailed Grass: Off
    Particles: Medium or Low
Track Detail (trackside objects): Medium or Low

Well I ran 3768x1200 on a GTX970, you could put most stuff medium to high, just turn grass off, shadows on ultra stops flickering.

Begin by playing with the default settings, modifying only the resolution of control panel nvidia (factor and smoothing DSR). MSAA and FXAA on OFF.

Thanks for the input guys. Think it was mostly enhanced mirror that slowed performance. Doubled the framerate by turning it off, got steady 60 fps now with more stuff on ultra.

Is there a thread anywhere that breaks down exactly what each setting does and its impact on quality/ performance?

The same I was looking for but could not find one that went into the specifics of it. For me it seems like the biggest impact on performance was enhanced mirror, shadow detail and grass (in that order). Next there are the cosmetic ones; reflections, enviroment, track detail and particle. Downtuning all these settings allowes you to turn up most other things like texture and car detail.

Loosing enhanced mirror migth be the only real negative here because I did not notice much change in grass, and shadow detail off makes flickering shadows in forestsections dissapear.

The cosmetic ones does not change much either unless you are in chase cam, and that is the wrong cam for simracing anyway. Particles are a cool effect though, so that could be kept.

The way I tested was to have a framratecounter like fraps activated, then start a full lobby race in bad weather with player in last pole and watch the framerate as 30 npc cars make chaos in the first corner. Change one setting pr restart of game and when your optimal framerate is steady, youre done.
