    F1 2018

Anyone else playing F1 2018 besides the pcars2? I've been playing pCars2 about entire year now, and currently havin a break from it after started F1 2018. I'm really happy with it and I think it have some advantages over pCars2.

    1. Halo doesn't bother me after all. I'm glad it's there because it forced me to use Cockpit instead of TV cockpit. In 2016 and 2017 I played from TV cockpit which is not realistic. With cockpit I easily got used to the graphical wheen and hands, because you cannot hide them.

    2. Practise sessions has programs and passing them gives you points. So, doing all the practises is kind of fun and it is a bigger part of the game.

    3. F1 2018 does not force you to finish 3rd or better. You don't have to drive because of points earning, there is much more involved. I can be happy just finishing the race, not being in top-10.

I played one championship in F1 2018, thought give it a break and get back to pCars2. Nonsense. Can't play this anymore. No interest. F1 car class is so much interesting and also tracks in F1 are much better.

Because there is only one class. You're not advancing up a ladder of classes like in PCars.

If you can be happy finishing mid-pack in F1 2018 then you can be happy finishing mid-pack in PCars.

He does have a point somewhere. It would be nice to be able to set the difficulty so high you could end up midfield and still progress. With a difficulty setting you're tuning the AI to your taste anyway, so a win doesn't equal a win anyway.

Maybe a variable minimum finishing position instead would be an option. This way you can still raise or lower the bar for yourself, but in another way. Just throwing it out there.

I find midfield racing much more immersing than front running too.

I see what you're saying but here are a couple of counterpoints to that.
    1. How often do you see a guy that finishes midfield in one series advance to the next higher one? It happens but it's the exception. So it feels unrealistic to me.
    2. Having to finish in the top three creates stress and tension that adds to immersion. Yeah I get it that you're already dialing in the AI ability to your own level. But if you set the AI difficulty at a certain value and make a pact with yourself that you're not going to change it mid-season, then advancing to the next level becomes a real goal. If you're in danger of not achieving that goal late in the season it puts some pressure on you.
    3. Without some sort of goal out in front of you, there's no point to career at all. You may as well be allowed to drive any car on any track at any time like in QRW. Career mode becomes redundant.

No he doesn't. His premise is that you are required to finish 3rd or higher to "progress". If all you want to do is run the same series over and over (i.e. F1/Formula A), you don't need to finish 3rd or higher to just continue to do season after season.

Now, the only real concern is that with PC2 there are series you cannot do until you "unlock" them. So in this example, you just can't start with Formula A and only run Formula A like you could in PC1. IMO, that was a step back but it was a design decision SMS made based on some of the PC1 feedback.

I love F1, but in my experience F1 games in even numbered years are all crap (it seems like even numbered games are made by one team and odd numbered games are made by another team so that CM can maintain yearly releases) so I'll most likely skip this one.

What bad things have you experienced?

It's been many iterations since I've messed with them, but I always thought they did a pretty decent job of making an accessible racer without overly dumbing them down.
