The Project Cars 2 Multi-Class Cup

I thought it would be interesting to see which of the cars would perform best around some of the tracks in the game, using the Custom Grid Tool to generate multi-multi-class races.

Here's how it works: Between the CG Tool's functionality, and my DLC downloads (or lack thereof), I have 185 vehicles available to choose from for a custom race. These vehicles will be split into six "heats", featuring 30-31 vehicles in each, with the top finishers qualifying for one of the finals.

The finals will feature 32 vehicles each and will run as follows:

    Quarter-Final

9th-13th placed finishers, plus two fastest 14th placed finishers from heats.
    Winner progresses to Final.
    2nd-9th progress to Semi-Final.

    Semi-Final

5th-8th placed finishers from heats, plus qualifiers from Quarter-Final.
    1st-7th progress to Final.

    Final

1st-4th placed finishers from heats, plus qualifiers from Quarter and Semi-Finals.
    Winner is crowned champion.

The lineup of each heat is decided using random numbers, with no restrictions.

Each race will run a certain number of laps, with the number being as many laps as is needed to reach the following distances:

    Heats - 25 miles
    Quarter-Final - 40 miles
    Semi-Final - 50 miles
    Final - 75 miles

There will be a five-minute qualifying session before each race.

The vehicle I drive in each race will be decided by whichever vehicle I deem to be the most comfortable and familiar with, so as to minimise the risk of spoiling its chances by crashing out.

Rules and penalties are on, with the AI level and assists tailored to allow me to closely match the AI's pace in similar vehicles.

I have completed Heat 1 of Round 1, and will be posting the results, as well as all other results as and when I complete the races, below.

ROUND 1 - DAYTONA ROAD COURSE

I've chosen the Daytona Road Course - as featured in the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona - to host the first round as it provides both tight, twisty corners and long, fast straights, and should therefore give a good indication of which vehicles are strong all-round.

Future rounds may be held in more specialised tracks, such as ovals, shorter, twistier tracks, and perhaps ice and Rallycross tracks as well.

    HEAT 1

(All heats will be 11 laps with no mandatory pit-stop)

Total time rather than gap to leader is displayed to provide easier comparison between heats.

Just a quick suggestion. As their are 6 heats and 185 cars, you only need to run 31 cars per race, so how about you compete in a random additional "joker" car and have no effect on the outcome.

Because I'm a racer at heart and want to have fun racing against a grid of mis-matched cars. In Heat 1, for example, I was the Aston Martin Vantage GTE, and I spent most of the race battling the Mitsubishi Evo Track Day car, which didn't handle as well as me, but had an absurd amount of power on the oval section, so we engaged in an intriguing game of cat and mouse (until he spun off trying to lap a backmarker and had to pit with damage).

Some interesting results there. The Ferrari F40 LM outshone all the other GT class cars to easily qualify for the Semi-Final (and nearly the Final itself), and the Pagani Huayra deserves some credit for also making the Semis. Disappointing result for the Porsche 918 though, it struggled with traffic and handling which means one of the favourites to win the Road Class category is already eliminated.

On a personal note, I'm gutted that the Jaguar XJ220 - my favourite car of all time - just missed out on the opportunity to sneak into a Quarter-Final spot.

The Ferrari F50 GT becomes the first non-Le Mans or Open Wheel vehicle to qualify for the final, whilst the Lamborghini Veneno is hoping to be only the second road car to progress beyond the heats - it must wait and hope that it can hold onto its place as one of the two fastest 14th placed vehicles.

Interesting that the Indycar finished nearly 55 seconds behind the Formula A. I didn't see if it got held up by anything, but that doesn't bode well for its chances in the Final.

    Notes:

    - The Aston Martin DBR1 is classified as being 2.5 laps behind the leader because in the case of a missing vehicle, one of the other vehicles is duplicated and so I take an average of their finishing positions.

    - The Renault 5 and Toyota TS050 did not compete as they experienced compatibility issues from using the Custom Grid Tool and the game itself.

    - No screenshots this time as the game refused to allow me to watch the replay.

Both of the cars that struggled were DLC, if that means anything. No other DLC cars competed. Also, was at an oval spec Indycar, which could explain the time gap.

I don't have any DLC, so that would explain why those two cars didn't feature. There might be one or two more examples of this as I finish off the heats.

It was the road spec Indycar, it might have spun off somewhere, I don't know, and I can't find out because it wouldn't let me view the replay - whenever I clicked "view replay" at the end of the race, nothing happened.

Good result for the Mclaren, becoming only the second road car to reach the final rounds, whilst the Enzo must wait and hope it can be one of the fastest losers following a tight finish with the GT3 Megane that it just lost out on.
