Military Vehicle Research Thread (Military Vehicle Games are allowed too)

Welcome to the Military Vehicle Research Thread ~ Within this thread we'll be covering Military Vehicles and their statistics, performance, and their components.
We'll discuss Tanks, Aircraft, Ships, and other vehicles (of all nations) made and used in the act of war. Production or Prototype, to even Blueprint vehicles are all allowed, if it's interesting, then it is allowed on this thread, onto games like War Thunder and IL-2 Sturmovik, speaking of those games are allowed, as those games are built around vehicle combat.

    Enjoy The Thread.

also, expect a lot of heated arguments.

to start off, Ill be reviewing a rather interesting aircraft, it's one we all may know, and it was the staple of what made Heavy Fighters, 'great', I am of course talking about the P-38 Lighting.
Now, the P-38 by all means wasn't the worlds "greatest" aircraft, it was a good Heavy Fighter, but was it better than the likes of a P-47? or P-51? no, but it was better than it's German Rival... the Me-410, and Me-110.

now, the P-38 had a book of models and variants, but, Ill be showcasing an interesting Model, the P-38M-6 "Night Lightning", a Night-fighter version of the P-38, created to compete with the P-61 Black Widow, it entered too late in the war for it to even get an air kill or any form of combat, but it is an Interesting vehicle to talk about. here is what I could gather.

    P-38M-6 Night Lightning:

A total of 75 P-38Ls were modified to the Night Lightning configuration, painted flat-black with conical flash hiders on the guns, an AN/APS-6 radar pod below the nose, and a second cockpit with a raised canopy behind the pilot's canopy for the radar operator. The headroom in the rear cockpit was limited, requiring radar operators who were preferably short in stature.

The P-38M was faster than the purpose-built Northrop P-61 Black Widow night fighter. The night Lightnings saw some combat duty in the Pacific towards the end of the war but none engaged in combat.

Rolls Royce Merlin and Rolls Royce Griffon are the 2 most famous Rolls Royce piston engines RR has ever made, these engines we're used in a insane amount of aircraft, in America it was known as the Packard or Allison Merlin's, they we're the same engine just different name. but the most famous users are the Spitfire, Mustang, Mosquito. well the Daimler-Benz DB-605ASCM might be the only counter to the Griffon engine.

Why do you expect "a lot of heated arguments"?

once when the thread picks up, a lot of heated arguments will show up, maybe about tanks, ships, aircraft etc.. When talking about anything, theres always competitive spirits in the conversation.
