Resolution issue- Desktop vs In Game question

My primary display is a 4K Projector @ 100" Most of my PC stuff I do in VR, so I never really use the screen(just to navigate menus/windows etc). I am running my Desktop Resolution at 1920x1080. My issue is, if I decide not to play in VR, I want Full screen mode in game to be 3840x2160. When I set the in game resolution to 3840x2160, but leave the desktop at 1920x1080, the game image is way way too big and I only see about half the image.

If I switch desktop resolution to match in game resolution (any resolution) it fits the screen correctly.

I want to leave desktop background at 1920x1080 because if I set it to 4K res, it is just way too small to see.

So is it possible for me to run Desktop resolution at 1920x1080 and in game at 3840x2160 so that the game boots up and fills the screen correctly? Or do I need to change my desktop background before starting the game everytime?

I had a similar issue when I got my new monitor (going from FullHD to 2K). Make sure that in the windows display settings, the "scaling for texts, apps and elements" is set to 100%, when using 4K resolution. Windows automatically sets this to 150% with higher resolution than FullHD (for better visibility/readabiltiy, I guess).

So switch your desktop resolution to 4K, change the scaling back to 100%, change back to FullHD, start the game. If this fails (e.g. Windows resets scaling to 150%), switch the desktop resolution to 4K, scaling to 100%, start the game.

Thanks. That is what I have been doing for the moment. But I am wondering if I can leave the desktop @ 1080p and boot the game in 4K, without changing desktop resolution?
