I bougth a Sony HTRT3 home cinema that looks impressive and fits perfectly in the monitor stand, but I have some problems because I only get 2.1 audio ATM thru the SPDIF cable. The reason for choosing a home cinema is for less cabling, but I am not sure that I can make it work in 5.1 mode. I have to make some test with the HDMI cable instead of SPDIF, but even in 2.1 sounds great.

Just an update for reference. The RTX 2080 made a big difference. For my i5-6600K GTX970 settings on Low with triple monitors, I was getting for a night time race with rain around Long Beach ( typically going round the little flower garden bend ) I was getting below 25 fps and had a nasty strobe affect on the side windows. After the upgrade now running on High settings, no strobe affect and getting 75 fps Interesting was the strobe affect seemed to be caused by low settings.

    Looks great now.

Out of interest , What would a pc equivalent of an Xbox one X cost ? Same performance and graphics.
Could someone give examples of processor and graphics cards etc.

If you want just a single monitor identical performance, I would say a $600 budget is reasonable. Probably looking at the following components.

Intel i5 4th gen or Ryzen 3 1400 processor CPU or higher
    8Gigs of Ram
    GTX 1060 3GB or Radon RX480 GPU

If you want to do triple screens or VR the budget needs to be higher because the specs need to be higher. IMHO, budget about $800 for a triple screen capable PC and $1100 for a VR PC not including the monitors or VR HMD.
    What line?
PC: Ryzen7 2700x, RTX 2080, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD HD, Oculus Rift and Vive Pro
Wheel/Pedal: Fanatec Clubsport wheel, pedal, shifter and handbrake

FYI The Odyssey plus is on sale for $299. Might be a good idea to pick that up over the Rift
