But a Steam problem during a race affects even Dedicated servers, when Steam goes down for somebody, he is instantly disconnected from the race on a dedi, I think this is the big problem.

    Ah ok thanks.
Then that is the best I could do. If they don't know a solution then it is hopeless. Sad that there isn't a solution.

We're testing the dedicated server workaround on some azure hosted servers kindly offered by one of the AOR coordinators. We use the - sportplay option, which is the lan/offline modality for dedicated servers. That way, the connection to steam is not required so we hope we can run the races with no issues. However, this is a workaround and not a solution. Only SMS could offer a solution by patching the game so it doesn't disconnect the players every time the steam connection falls. Other games don't require the connection to steam, I'm pretty sure of it because if it was the case, 20 millions of Dota 2 players would have burned down Valve HQs already.

This is a game breaking issue, and if SMS has any hope to keep its online player base for the upcoming PC3, they should hurry and look into this problem and offer a real solution.

I have heard of this -sportplay option long time ago, but never seen it mentioned officially here, have been wondering why. Please tell us if it works ok for you...

    We already had successful tests.
It's a bit a PITA to organize (every client needs to add an option on the game start and it's not possible to invite drivers into a dedicated server) but worked well, albeit not in an official race yet.

Ok, thanks, that's good and promising info! Not good enough for casual racing/club racing, but at least for organized leagues this may help a lot...

-sportsplay does not fix the issues with disconnects with large grids we tried it months ago and it is still Steam dependant to a degree, if Steam goes down you will still get disconnected.

you can run -sportsplay with Steam offline so you "shouldn't" be affected by a steam problem.

But you have to put the Sportsplay command into Steam launch options iirc, so you are saying once joined then turn off steam?

And today is again a fiasco. Surely the team has to fix this.
Because they have almost lost all the goodwill of the racers, and rightly so.
They are already trolling about the new console. Why oh why oh why do they want to bring a new console?
    It makes no sense.
Are they sabotaging the game or company? Because by now the game had much potential but they blew it with so many bugs and horrible multiplayer.
I really don't understand it. Who will be interested in Project Cars 3 or the console after seeing this?
