Oh the days of the Commodore 64 and writing BASIC, listening to the tape and then getting an error and starting again.

Pffft, you had it easy . With the TI99/4A, if you were so much as one second late between pressing enter on Load and pressing Play on the tape player, the code wouldn't load. Same for saving. It was rather soul-destroying to spend hours coding in a game only to have no way of saving it, so once the machine was switched off, the game was lost, like tears in the rain. Of all the early computers I played with, I miss the TI the most. The hours I spent playing Blasto with my brother and Parsec with the speech module

Turbo loaders on the C64 were a lifesaver. Never tried to defrag a cassette with multiple games on it, though. Maybe that would have decreased loading times even more.

And how hard was to copy because it detects the noise in the silent zones of the tape to detect tape to tape copies. First game in Spectrum was the one of my avatar and reduced the load time up 50%.
