If you dl a program like defraggler. It has the option to omit defragmentation on a SSD which it's not recommended to defrag one as posted in the prior postings!

Windows 10 does this automatically, it doesn't defrag when it knows that the drive is an SSD.

I honestly can't even remember the last time. I actually defragged a hdd. But, I do know that about Win 10. IIRC now, even defraggler I think you have to force it to show an SSD.

But back to DD topic, now!

In Win10 defrag it shows the medium type without any funny business, but yeah it's a mindless affair nowadays.

On that topic of a DD all I can only say I want one in my life at some point.
Reading the messages here makes me jealous of all of you who have one. Someday though... someday!

Unless I'm missing the sarcasm here, yes this is really bad advice.

SSD drives degrade as the bits get rewritten. It's kinda like a rechargeable battery in that sense, they only last a number of recharge cycles until they go bad. So if a bit is set to 1 it's charged and if set to 0 it is discharged. Now if you figure that defragmentation means that files get switched around in a particular order so that a mechanical read head in a old harddrive can more quickly read them; yeah, it's really damaging to the drive in the long run.

The only thing you're doing when defragmenting a SSD is to shorten its life cycle.
SSDs are maintaining themselves by fragmentating data on purpose to equalize the "workload" over all memory cells.
In simple words, you're actively damaging your SSD with this.
I ONLY do when programs don't load correct or Just Fail to Load... Once I defrag and restart PC every thing works as it should....On the SSD its Not even really a Defrag i think they call it a trim or something.... My SSD is only used for My OS anyway all My Games are on My HDD... Example: in the case Of ACC when it was in Beta sometimes it wouldn't load after a update this also happened alot with Pcar1... Once I defrag the HDD and Restart and all is well again...

HDD are Cheap so Life span is Not a Huge prob... So instead of 10yrs I get 5yrs I can live with that

An HDD works on magnetism and not current state. So the wear is different on them. Most of the time it's the mechanical bits failing (platter motor or the head motor). One of my harddrives I still use to this day is a Maxtor DiamondMax 10 from 2005-ish. So yeah... way beyond its life expectancy. Same with the Samsung Spinpoint F1 drives from 2009, they are also 10 years old now. I even have a 10 Megabyte Western Digital in my Amiga 2000 from the late 80s that still works fine.

What I want to say is that good hardware can last you a lifetime. That includes a good direct drive wheel.

Exactly but My point was his program wasn't working/Loading correctly so it couldn't hurt to try Defrag to see if it gets things straight.
