There are a few "aliens" in my sport that drive rather harshly, (ie do it "wrong") yet manage to put down some amazing times.

Also, it's important to consider that even fast drivers make mistakes and find themselves in situations that require less-than-optimal inputs to fix, or at the very least survive, the situation.

I lose time in PC2 when I find myself sawing at the wheel.

I know when i started, I've been told by my league mates that my setups made no sense to them. IE undriveable.

My times were right there with them though. Even won a race in formula C before it was changed.

Now I have a new wheel, idk if my setups make anymore sense, but they have less downforce though.

AC on the other hand, I think I need more help with the setup stuff, the open wheelers are fun. I love the 2017 and 2004 ferrari. But if it is a head to head on the car, I'll pick the Pcars2 car just about every time. I don't think I have the hang of the physics yet.

That's because the "pro" drivers are exploiting the game by using steering assist (it's not possible to prohibit that by the host iirc) and that technique is the fastest way to get through a corner with this assist on.
Yes you read that right, those aliens don't give a s**t about realism when they're racing for price money.

Those are the very top drivers of PCARS2, and they use this "technique" in every single corner. Of course it should need much practice to make this work "properly".

Agreed, but I do not think it has to do with steering assist (this was wrongly suggested in the discord server some time ago), because the officials told us that steering assist was disabled in the LAN finals, but people were still using this driving technique. I agree, people will exploit what they can, but if the physics were (more) realistic, it shouldn't be possible to do something like that. Of course, I am not saying that it's only PCARS2 that has such flaws, I am sure every sim out there has stuff like that, just talking about PCARS2 because that's the one I use and know a few things about.

It's very possible with a high steering ratio. Each movement of the wheel will have minimal effect.

To my knowledge, Jardier doesn't use steering assist. And I consider him an alien.

No idea how these guys work out silly stuff like that but I doubt this has anything to do with physics itself. My guess is also it has more to do with game mechanics and steering input as it was fixed setups and default steering ratio is like 13:1 or 13:5.

Sawing at the wheel is a natural response that many drivers use when searching for grip.
It seems rather negative and unjustified to frame this as a physics issue. I often find myself doing it when on the edge of grip.

Thanks, that was very interesting to read, but the guy asked for comments, and people below told him that only thing he was doing was to increase his tire heat and wear, not go any faster. If it really was faster in real life with this technique as in the sim, then _everybody_ in real life racing would be using it, wouldn't they?
