[RESOLVED] PC2 - Black Screen then crashing to desktop while racing

Lately, PC2 has started to Black Screen and crash to the desktop while racing, sometimes recovering to the game and continuing by itself. At other times the game sound can be heard but the video will not resume from the desktop.

I have tried the game in 4k (medium settings) and 1440p (Ultra setting) and it is happening on both.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled PC2 after (deleting all PC2 folders in My Documents), reset Nvidia Control Panel to Default values and also installed the latest Nvidia GeForce driver ver. 441.20 and the problem is still happening.

    GPU: RTX 2080
    CPU: 2700X
    RAM:16GB

I would first try turning off or disabling any OverClock and/or Boost in the BIOS settings. Then check if problem persists.

I just did a complete uninstall of the Nvidia Driver including deletion of all Nvidia Registry keys.
Latest driver installed on PC (again). I will report back as to how it goes....

The game still crashes to the desktop once and then will resume and will not crash again until the next session.

I have done everything as set out in this thread and the problem is still there. I wonder if it is a GPU driver issue which needs to be reported to Nvidia. Is anyone else having this problem with 441.20 and the previous driver?

p.s. None of my other games do this....

Try turning ON debug mode in the Nvidia Control Panel under the "Help" menu. If it fixes it you know what the issue it.

In the BIOS settings, is Cool'n'Quiet enabled? if so, disable it. Forgot to mention that in my first post. That gave me symptoms much like you described until I disabled Cool'n'Quiet. Other games may be fine with that turned on, with PC1&2 it's more demanding on your system. I'm on first gen ryzen, not sure if second gen has cool"n' quiet.,but if it's there, try disabling it.

The problem appears to have been resolved with the last four gaming sessions without a crash to the desktop!

So, as per DaWorstPlaya suggested, I turned ON Debug Mode and drove a few laps (about 20 minutes of play) without a crash to the DT. I then exited PC2 and turned OFF Debug Mode and launched the game again. The problem did not return!

Today, I played PC2 again and launched the game twice and played for about 2 hours without a crash to the DT with [Debug Mode = OFF].

So, it seems that there may have been some corrupted code stuck in the GPU [non volatile memory] (as the Nvidia Driver was cleaned out and reinstalled as stated in an earlier post).
