PC2 VR. Why are some settings locked, and how can I unlock them

I'm new to the world of VR sim racing. I've been trying to figure out why the game is blurry. A number of things I've read suggest changing settings (like turning off depth of field in the helmet cam.) but when I find a place to change them, some are locked. Does anyone know why? How can I unlock them.
I'd appreciate any advice. Sadly, I'm not much of a "computer guy", just love to drive race cars.

    Thanks

I'd suggest reading some of the VR threads... starting with the pinned one at the top of this section of the forum..

but basically use as much supersampling as you can get away with (from the VR menu), but more than about 1.3-1.4 is going to get to the point of dimishing returns and set the sharpening filter to on (sharpening filter). And definately don't use the helmet cam...

As MadAl said SS will help a lot, another thing is MSAA/PostAA will also help with image quality.
What VR headset are you using? And which platform (Steam or Oculus)? What are your system specs? Which videocard?
    What line?

Thanks for the reply. When I go to the game settings Visuals/performance and try to change MSAA I find a setting for SMAA & FXAA but both are locked. My anti-aliasing choices are "off" DS2X (the default) DS2M, DS4X, DS4M, DS6X & DS8X.
I'm using an Oculus Riff-S, I assume the platform is Oculus, my system specs are: Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 1400 Quad Core 3.2 Ghz. 32 GB RAM, Nivdia GE Force RTX2070 graphics card. HD 850 Pro SSD 500 GB
Windows 10 64 bit. Oculus Riff S software v13.1. Thrustmaster T300. Project Cars Game of the year addition v1.1.0.

OK, it would have been useful to know you were talking about Project CARS not Project CARS 2..

If I recall correctly, the DSnX settings are super sampling (built into the engine) the DSnM combine Super sampling and MSAA.

Any locked options are due to them not working well in VR, or causing visual issues (I seem to recall one of the AA options caused horrendous ghosting), I run DS2M and it's a reasonable compromise.

You may struggle with more than a handful of cars on track due to the relatively weak CPU you have and it might be worth adding a couple of command line options in Steam to see if that helps, dx11mt and pthread 4 would be a good starting point. Commandline options

The VR implimentation in PC1 isn't as good in terms of options as in PC2, so you may have to live with some of the compromises.

All the threads about VR in PC1 are here

Al, thanks. Wow, lots of stuff to think about. Two questions: you mentioned a relatively weak CPU. What can/should I do to spiff it up? My wife builds computers for our business and can do what ever I need.
Secondly, would it help if I bought PC2 and stopped using PC1?
    Thanks.

R5 2600X would already be a pretty decent upgrade. Or even better, the R5 3600X

You can sum it up as, plenty of refinements and improvements, but some areas where some people prefer the original. There are also a number of cars that didn't make it to the second game, that you might, or might not miss... but plenty of new additional content too.
Even simple stuff like being able to adjust things whilst driving (pause menu allows you to get to and adjust options, where PC1 didn't)
    VR is definately more refined.

With Steam you could try it for up to two hours and if you don't like it, get a refund... personally, I'd wait for a sale to buy it..
