G29 randomly works/doesn't work when starting up

I play PC2 in VR with a Logitech G29 wheel & pedals. When starting the game, many times it doesn't recognize the G29 at all: the buttons don't work, let alone the wheel and pedals. Sometimes the buttons work for menus but the wheel and pedal don't engage. Sometimes everything works as intended.

I found instructions where it was advised to delete the default.controllersettings.v1.03.sav file from the relevant Documents/Project Cars 2 subdirectory. This always resolves the issue, but it's really annoying to keep deleting the file and then to configure the controller all over again (button mapping etc).

Does someone know how I can just get rid of this issue for good? I tried making the default.controllersettings.v1.03.sav file read-only, hoping that PC2 would therefore leave it alone. But this didn't work, and I had to delete the file again to get the game to notice my G29.

I use the G29 with Dirty Rally 2.0 no problem, so hardware should be ok.

    Thanks in advance.

Do you use VR in Dirt Rally? Does the wheel work without VR? Have you tried changing the USB port for your wheel?

Yes, I play both PC2 and Dirt Rally only in VR. I don't think I've tried the wheel without VR. I will try a different USB port later on, though I don't know if that's the issue because the G29 works fine in Dirty Rally. The wheel is connected to a dedicated USB PCI card.

Do you plug it back into the same USB port every time when you plug it back in?

I've tried a couple of USB ports. No difference. The wheel setup doesn't work when starting the game. After I delete the settings file it works again.

If all else fails, I will write a script that deletes the file when launching the game. But then I lose my wheel configuration. Does someone know what happens to the settings file in the game? I'm wondering why making the file read only didn't resolve my issue.

Was any of the ports you tried NOT on the PCI card? Have you tried without your VR plugged in?
