Hi all,
We've just rolled out an interim PC patch that adds Steam VAC support to the game. Details below.
Project CARS - PC Patch 6.2 - Steam VAC support
Project CARS now support VAC, Steam's anti-cheat system. If it detects that players are using external cheat mechanisms in mulitplayer such as 3rd party hacking tools, it will permanently ban them from joining "secure" multiplayer sessions in the future. A secure session is identified with a VAC shield icon displayed in the Online Browser. Slightly Mad Studios can also temporarily or permanently ban players from secure multiplayer.
Administrators of dedicated servers can choose whether the server is secure or not in the config (defaults to secure), and peer to peer sessions are created as secure by default, unless a VAC-banned player creates them, then they are insecure.
VAC bans are limited to multiplayer gameplay and do not affect access to offline features of the game.
Please note, for the anti-cheat detector part to work, we need to report any known cheat programs to Valve so that they can add these to their detection list. If you become aware of a new cheat program, please report this to Slightly Mad Studios and we will see that it is added to the list.

That's not a cheat!
Some old anti cheat system could consider that as cheat even if it isn't. Like a false positive thing.. I wanted to make sure I wouldn't get banned! Haha! ;)
Nice addition by the way..
Thanks!

Easiest path is easier...
I am using a FFB file which is dropped into the PC folder
I got from this RD and I am hanging in the game now so was wondering if this is considered a "cheat"

A quick rundown of what should and should not be OK with VAC.
FFB Files (even those downloaded from other locations) = OK
Overlays/FPS counters (Fraps, RivaTuner, EVGA Precision, etc) = OK
Custom Liveries (even those downloaded from other locations) = OK
Dashboard/Telemetry Apps = OK
Exploiting In-Game glitches = OK (not saying you should do this, but glitches are SMSs problem and not related to VAC unless an external program is required to exploit said glitch.)
Mods = Should be OK (but use at your own risk.)
Time hacks = NOT OK
Warp/Speed hacks = NOT OK
Wall hacks = NOT OK
"Flying" hacks = NOT OK
So basically, any sort of external program that runs along side pCars that gives you a definite unfair advantage over other drivers.

You can check to see if you have been updated by checking the pcars exe located here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\pCars
right click the pCars64.exe, select properties then click the details tab, it should say product version 6.2.0.0 if you have been updated.
Thanks Bullwinkle, actually I have version 6.2, which strikes me in the game in the bottom left me figure 6.1222715
if I create an online game, the symbol VAC does not appear as in other rooms.

I just want to make sure, is the popular custom race engineer going to be ok?
Guys.. What these "Anti-Cheat" programs do is look for "reported" programs running in memory or program space at the same time as a Steam game which supports VAC. Unless the program is reported and accepted a "cheat" by Valve, then VAC won't flag it.

My version number is the same.,it just hasn't been updated on the UI screen as of yet.,probably next patch be more accurate.;)
Thanks again Bullwinkle, and know that when I create an online game not me VAC symbol appears

Mods = Should be OK (but use at your own risk.)
I'm afraid mods might not be OK. If you tweak the car stats, or use a modded car (which could be of already existing in the game) with stats way above the rest of the car class, that would result in cheat.
But the good thing here is even if mods are detected as a cheat, people with mods can still play together (and be joined by people without but coucious the other might have)

So can i turn off the peer to peer default? I have friends who have VAC bans from CS 6.1 from over 8 years ago and they cant join my rooms. Dedi can be turned off but can we for p2p?
Im currently hosting a room and it says its VAC enabled in the lobby screen, when im host for that room my friend cant join, so i leave the room and someone else in my clan becomes host, (hes also not got any VAC bans on record) Then my friend with VAC ban can join, once i rejoin the session it kicks him from the room. Why is this and how is this ok?

Shouldn't your "banned" friends create the room, and then you can join?
I though "clean" players can join any session (whereas "banned" players can only join session with VAC disabled)
Ok so new update on this, it kicks people who dont even have VAC bans on record, i created a room and people join, someone leaves to choose a different car, he then cant rejoin because it keeps kicking him. So i leave the session passing host to someone else in clan and he can join, then i get kicked when i try rejoining. What is wrong with VAC to be doing this.
