Hopefully, this will be beneficial to CM and SMS. Being under EA will hopefully provide financial security and help with the overall ability to provide further content for future games.

Welcoming Codemasters to the Family

We love racing games. As interest in playing them grows across the world it’s clear that you love them too. Over the years our existing franchises such as Need for Speed, Real Racing and Burnout have become some of the most beloved games. During this time we’ve followed and admired our colleagues at Codemasters, who have created some of our favorite racing franchises such as Formula 1, DiRT, Project CARS and GRID. We have seen the team innovate racing game technology and make some of the most fun games we’ve ever played. We couldn’t be more excited to welcome them to the Electronic Arts team.

United in our passion for this genre, our goal is to create a powerhouse in racing entertainment for all of you, ushering in the next era of car and racing games.

We’re thrilled by this new opportunity to bring you even more racing games, more often. The union also unlocks the potential for us to create new innovative ways to interact with each other and enjoy our passion for racing games together. With the greatest minds in racing entertainment all under one roof, you’re going to see even more innovation and we’re going to bring all new ideas to life.

We can’t wait to share more with you soon. Stay tuned!

RIP Codemasters you had a great innings!

Codemasters have been fairly average for a long time now sadly apart from F1 (it all started with that dreaded EGO engine) but id hate to see their demise which will inventively come under EA as that is what EA do buy studios and close them down years later. Seems a lifetime ago that we were playing Toca which could compete with the best circuit racers out there at the time and many lifetimes ago with classics like Dizzy, Fruit Machine Sim (God i loved that) and Miami Chase.

Dam You EA!

I don't think you can blame EA for this. With so many failed projects lately from Codemasters, I'm pretty sure it's themselves who were desperately looking for a buyer.

There are some really positive news stories doing the rounds.

https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/ea-has-officially-completed-its-purchase-of-codemasters/

I think the quotes from the people involved are truly inspiring for the future.

In a statement, the publisher said the combination of Electronic Arts and Codemasters marks “an exciting new era in racing game entertainment”.

“This is the beginning of an exciting new era for racing games and content as we bring together the talented teams at Electronic Arts and Codemasters,” said CEO Andrew Wilson in a statement.

“Racing fandom continues to grow worldwide, and the franchises in our combined portfolio will enable us to create innovative new experiences and bring more players into the excitement of cars and motorsport. Our teams will be a global powerhouse in racing entertainment, with amazing games for players on every platform, and we can’t wait to get started.”

Codemasters CEO Frank Sagnier added: “Today is a landmark in Codemasters’ history, and an exciting day for our employees and players.

“The partnership with EA will enable our teams to take our highly-acclaimed franchises to new heights and reach a huge global audience through their player network. Together we can redefine the landscape of racing games to create even more compelling experiences for racing fans around the world.”

EA did some pretty decent racing sim/games back in the 90s, let's hope they can find that holy grail of something that's both brilliant sim and brilliant videogame. I think the Project CARS series has come as close as anything, so you would think that the SMS team would be near the front of the queue for that one.

Agreed. They're also still learning, as the computer games landscape is never static. Their hearts are with pure sim racing (whatever that means :)), but they also know they need to pack it in a good game, in playing field that has some stiff competition. I hope they'll do well.

As average as Codies have become they are still vastly superior to EA, The problem with EA is everything they do is toxic! From gambling in kids games to buying up studios and shutting them down.

it's not just EA, this is how the globalization of BIG corporations works. it's not toxic, it's business

Hello, I am also very happy that you can welcome Codemasters in the EA family, let's hope that it will bring a lot of new products to the plus, because it would be very nice if it would develop but I think it will develop, I had a few problems with it but we managed to deal with it fortunately
