    Video Capture

Apologies if this thread is a duplication, can't find out anywhere.

How does one capture video of replays to either upload to YouTube and/or use in editing programs?

I've seen a lot of picture in picture, graphical overlays in YouTube videos. Back in my old Xbox days I use to use a PVR to capture footage from replays and then edit them in FCP on my Mac before uploading.

I'm assuming project cars has a option to upload replays to YouTube, don't have access to my game ATM. If so, I assume there is file size or resolution restrictions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I luv to get back to video edition of game footage.

    Regards

On PC you use video capture software there is quite a few different ones out there and everyone has their favorite, I will list a few below but I am sure there are more.

Mirillis Action - https://mirillis.com/en/products/action.html (This is what I use, is a paid app but does have a trial to test it out)
Action has a host of options with a nice UI and ingame FPS counter, does your usual ingame recording / taking screenshots / benchmarks has an upload to youtube or facebook option.
Can use it to stream to Twitch Ustream youtube Livestream Aliez.tv and hitbox
Plus has quite a few options for your recordings not just for games but also desktop if you wish records upto 120FPS.

Bandicam http://www.bandicam.com/downloads/ (I haven't used this but believe can get for free)

FRAPS http://www.fraps.com/download.php (used this in past)
Fraps is quite basic in the UI FPS counter is not the prettiest not massive amounts of options but a lot of people do still use it, it has all the basic options you need FPS Counter video screenshot benchmark capturing video size and framerate capture settings.

Probably best thing to do is try them out and see which one works best for your needs, as for PIP videos you may have to use some video editing software like sony vegas or similar editing program if you want to edit the captured video.

For PC, I have recorded my videos with MSI Afterburner or Nvidia Shadowplay.

At lower resolutions MSI Afterburner seems to work well, but at 2160p it causes big drops in performance.
ShadowPlay works well with 4K, but has fewer settings to tweak image quality, audio, video format, etc.

Used FRAPS and a few others
    - usually a large FPS hit when recording

Using XSplit Gamecaster (free version) which as it all in one place and isn't buggy or broken like Shadowplay tends to be once in a while
    - no noticeable performance hit when streaming to Twitch (trade off: higher performance for a little lower quality)
... havent used it locally because streaming doesn't impact FPS plus the Twitch streams are stored for a week or so unless you offload them to YouTube
(Twitch can do this for you... no more uploading to YouTube because you are uploading while you stream (far as I am aware))

I would also like to add Open Broadcaster into here for video capture, extremely powerful tool, completely free

You may need a little technical know-how to really make best use of it though

    Replay Saving

I use the registered version of Bandicam because it records direct from your game.
Its also good for recording your replays.
You will need a Video Editor for re-saving your video, as a 7-8 minute replay will be about 3gb in size.
I use Camtasia to edit and save out which brings the video down in size to about 3-400 mb (Big difference)
Bandicam is Free but you will be limited to 10 mins recording.

NVIDIA Shadowplay is fantastic. Uninstalled FRAPS once I discovered it.
