    GPU Usage

I have just installed MSI Afterburner to check on CPU and GPU performance after some recent hardware changes. To my surprise my GPU usage runs at 98-99% which shocked me as my old radeon hd6950 also ran at 99-100%.

Now i have a gtx970 running at stock settings i expected to see a lower usage but even if i turn down some of the graphic settings it still seems to run at 98-99%.

CPU seems not too bad and runs anywhere from 60% to 85% but is this normal for a gtx970 with a 2650x1440 resolution running the in game settings in my sig bearing in mind i did lower some of the settings with no difference in the GPU usage.

I think with your settings even a 980 would hit 99% load from time to time. What about your fps?

I would recommend lowering: REFLECTIONS: from HIGH to MEDIUM| ENVIRONMENT: from HIGH to MEDIUM | SHADOW: from ULTRA to HIGH or MEDIUM

Especially reflections and env. map eat your GPU for breakfast.

If you aren't running vsync then any gpu, if it's working correctly will run at that. See vsync or fps limit then check with changing settings, you'll see a difference then.

If you are running vsync check fps, until vsync is stable lowering settings won't have any usage effect

Seems ok. I have a second EVGA GTX970SC in sli and allthough my settings is on ultra except for grass and enviroment i am at 60-85 percent when AI is not higher than 30 cars. Going higher with Ai gives a bottleneck. But i am able to run reflections on ultra and shadows with no problem

    Thanks guys.

I just did a race at oulton park with 25 AI day to night and no rain and i was getting between 55-75 fps.

I used GeForce Experience and used Optimal settings so i guess its not too bad but not being a pc expert i suppose i never thought your GPU would run at 99% all the time regardless of your in game settings.

Turn Detailed Grass off. It doesn't do that much for the immersion when racing but take a lot of GPU-power. You should gain some more fps.

If you don't cap your FPS, your GPU will always be at max load as long as the CPU doesn't become the bottleneck. But then you'll have 99% CPU load.
Even if you lower the details to minimum, you will still have 99% load but then maybe 150 - 180 fps and massive tearing.
Turn on Vsync and your GPU load will most likely be at around 85-90 % most of the time.

    Thanks for all replies.

All seems ok with my current optimal settings as all 4 cores are running between 65-85% and unless i have 40+ cars and rain it never goes into the 90's.

Minimum fps is 40-50 and maximum is 70-110 all depending on track number of cars and conditions so i am happy.
