    Enough Already With The Rammers!!!

    It's getting really frustrating.

Formula Rookie @ Dubai... The green light hadn't even come on before someone had totalled my car.

LMP1 @ Spa... Made a mistake, spun out at Eau Rouge. Guy behind catches up and passes. Through the top chicane, down the hill. Dude in front locks up and goes long. I pass... I brake and turn in for the next corner and he comes full speed front into my side, and quits the session.

I am trying to build up a network of people to race against, and it's working little by little. But there must be a way to put and end to this.

The rammers are usually not very fast... Could a feature be added (host enabled) whereby you have to qualify within a certain time to join the race? And that whole parking somewhere and waiting to block someone... Could an allowance be instated or something? I know this happens IRL.

Seems like there are many options that aren't very hard to implement to stop this stupidity.

Forget any updates until pcars 2. The amount of time iv'e spent qualifying to get pole only to be rammed off in the first corner and then get a penalty for corner cutting. The penalty system in this game is a joke and its not improved from release or should i say nothing really has improved the minute pcars 2 was announced.

Sim racing has been around a long time; as have rammers. For every solution, there is a flip-side. For example, I used to play a racing sim that had a vote-to-kick feature. It was great when you were in a lobby full of responsible adults who could handle losing to someone who is better. If you were fast, you could count on getting vote-kicked. Unfortunately, that's the same problem as rammers. If you were in a lobby fully of responsible adults, you wouldn't have a ramming problem.

Any solution you think you've come up with has probably been tried before. The root of the problem is that it really only takes one rammer to ruin a race, so any system that relies on some signaling indicator (like qualifying lap times) is only going to catch some of the rammers, but will exclude lots of clean racers who simply can't pass an arbitrary qualifying bar. It's a catch-22.

What works best is a trust network. You race with someone, and you learn to trust them. Your trust passes along to other people in your trust network. What's interesting is that not many games implement features to support these types of trust networks, so we end up solving the problem as a community with things like racing leagues.

It's not always the user error. PCars us notorious for its awful net code. There are videos a plenty from many of the respected you tubers who are also WMD supporters and investors who agree that the net code on this game is borderline unusable at best.

I feel your pain bro, but I'm not sure naming and shaming is something the mods here approve of?

Best way to avoid rammers is to only play people you know and/or get into a league.
If you're like me and you don't have time to commit to leagues then you're next best option is to create a lobby, enable full damage, either restrict driving aids to realistic or all aids off, and restrict transmission to manual only.
Rammers generally rely on driving aids, if aids are banned they won't bother joining your lobby.

all they are is talentless dumb asses that cant drive! they aren't fast and can only finish by wrecking the field. takes too much brain power to watch the race track and find a spot to start braking. they ruin multiplay for me so I race with the same people just about every night to avoid this problem.

If you like GT3 cars, you're always welcome to join our GT3 Championship that starts on 12 January with races on Tuesdays @8PM UK: http://www.kineticignition.com/gt3-series
We already have 31 drivers, but still have some spots left (we take into account that there may be some no-shows each week)

Our website http://www.kineticignition.com also hosts other leagues from time to time (e.g. we have LMP3 as well at the moment) although the GT3 Championship arguably is our biggest one right now.

It's not going to matter what type of system you employ, there will always be someone who thinks that it's fun to ruin things for others. Been racing online for quite some time now and have seen all kinds of ideas tried to " fix " the issue, they don't work and from a dev standpoint are a pointless waste of time and money. Don't mean to sound negative but as long as there are people playing there will be idiots. The only way currenly available to us as a cure is the sefl-management approach, get into a room with people who race clean and will kick those who won't. There are quite a few of us around who run rooms where acts of stupidity will earn you an instaban, you still never get all of them though. Some act nice until the race starts then cause as much chaos as possible, not much you can do except note the name for next time round. Enjoy your racing and see you on track.
Compromise: The art of slicing a cake so everyone thinks they have the biggest piece.
