Now DTM will be be back to 2 makes again...

Hopefully someone else can step in to fill the gap. But even then 3 is not really enough. I'd like to see at least 4.

Mercedes has announced it will quit DTM at the end of the 2018 season, as well as confirming a Formula E entry in 2019/20.

Alfa Romeo, as they have history in DTM, and moreso when the series was renamed ITCC.



And Ford. Ford also has history in DTM, but it's more obscure since it wasn't a factory effort, and it doesn't help that it wasn't very successful.

what about Opel? i know they have a history in DTM with the Astra and later the Vectra

Mercedes in Formula E is awesome news for the sport. I'm not too exposed to DTM so can't comment on that. Formula E is going to certainly attract more manufacturers now that Merc will field a team. I'm expecting Nissan/Infiniti, Toyota/Lexus, BMW to get their feet wet soon in FE. Formula E is going to turn out to be what Formula 1 should be. IMHO, all Formula E needs to do is find a way to have "gears" in the cars. This will make it so much more appealing to spectators, drivers, fans and gamers.
