New to Project Cars series... need some advice.

I just bought PC2 on PC today. I'm new to this series, I never tried PC1.
I have read many good reviews so that's why I am trying it. I am tired of Forza FFB and AI, I want a more realistic/Sim experience.

    I have a Thrustmaster TX + Th8A shifter and T3PA-Pro pedals.

My PC is a i7-8700k-16gb- GTX 1070 and it will be connected to my OLED tv.

I am thinking of getting an Oculus Rift, but I'm not sure yet, please convince me!

I guess I will start with the FFB settings for my wheel, any recommendations ?

What about graphics settings, I will not sacrifice FPS for picture quality, I want a solid 60 FPS.

Any advices/comments will be greatly appreciated.

Have a look at Jack Spades ffb files. Theyre stickied I think in the Pc section. I use Gain 100, volume 60ish, tone I vary from car to car but normally anywhere from 20-50, fx again 15-35- its really to taste and does vary from car to car. Sometimes I adjust pedal sensitivity too depending on the car/conditions combination.. As regards the rest- be patient with yourself and the game. Its an amazing experience but initially you might be a bit wtf.. i highly recommend starting in a ginetta junior to begin with. Its got bugger all power so youll get up to speed faster by learning how to carry as much energy as possible. I cant recomnend this enough!

For the FFB, as above, give Jackspade files a go..

Personally, when I had my TM TX (recently) I found what I felt to be an amazing setup, with a minor tweak to the JS files, although FFB is a personal thing, but still I would give it a shot and see what you think.

    http://forum.projectcarsgame.com/sho...stom-FFB-Files
    I used the file: ...\Traditional Files\ffb_custom_settings - alt mid comp.txt

But, I edited the value in the file from:
    # Texture --------------------------------------------
    (road_scale (* 0.0005 1.0))

    to
    # Texture --------------------------------------------
    (road_scale (* 0.00006 1.0))

and also changed deadzone removal based on running wheelcheck / fcm to:
I think by default this was 0.02 0.01

    #Deadzone Removal as pCARS 1 - deadzone/fall off
    (output (tighten output 0.10 0.04))

    In game, I used Gain 100, Volume 50, Tone 50, FX 50

By default, Jackspade files can feel quite heavy and forceful, but the texture edit above made it feel much more realistic to me on the TX wheel.
On the contrary, with my new CSW v2.5, I haven't changed the texture value in Jacks files and it feels very similar to my TX setup, so my thinking is it related to how the TX interpreted the forces being sent to it.

Have you ever tried one... if so, you probably wouldn't be asking us to convince you, instead you would be racing with one now

VR at the moment is lacking a little in the resolution department, it is noticeable in games where you have to look a few hundred meters in front of you, things close up are fantastic, but the further away, the less detailed / more blurry they become... this is noticeable in project cars... BUT... I still prefer to play PC2 in VR with lower graphics settings, compared to playing using my 4k 32" screen that's 1 foot in front of my face, with almost max graphic settings.

On my screen, I am looking at a flat image, no matter how much I try and convince myself otherwise. Cars / everything is smaller (unless I put the fov to uncomfortable claustrophobic settings) and the spacial awareness is little to non-existent.

With VR... I'm in the car, on the track and its exhilarating, once you get past the fact that it could be better, resolution wise, you will struggle to race on a monitor, no matter how fancy it can look.

    To add to ^^:

    VR:

Imagine being in a game. Like really in a game. I really loved tripple screens. Couldn't play any race game without them. But then I tried VR and now I cannot play any race game without VR. What's next? A broadband link directly to my occipital lobe? Hurry up Elon Musk. So since you do not have tripple screens you can just skip that fase and go right to VR. Skyrim VR is awesome too btw. I never knew how it felt to be an elf untill I played that game in VR.

Back to pcars 2 VR. You'll need a good GPU. Supersampling costs a lot of GPU processing power. The higher your GPU can supersample the game, the sharper and more real it will look.
With the gtx 1070 and help of asw (Asynchronous Spacewarp https://developer.oculus.com/blog/as...us-spacewarp/=) the image quality will be a bit blurry but you'll have enough fps to not get sick. Some people totally hate asw. I myself love it. For me it's like a cheap tradeoff: stable real 90 fps and a tiny more super sampling room, tradeoff: now and then shimering objects and sometimes a millisecond of distortion of the image. Works fine with my GPU, a GTX 1080, which is also not the go to card for VR (1080ti)

I would do it. If you can: buy an Oculus online at a webshop that allows you to test it first before buying or a shop that accepts refunds. In that case you can always send it back.

I'd suggest getting a feel for the game in its default state before starting to edit FFB etc. With PC1 I never liked those Jack Spade edits much and got rid of them, never felt the need to use them in PC2 as there is plenty you can do to tweak things within the game. It is very large and complex though, so first impressions might or might not be accurate as to how the game will be once you settle into it.
PC2 is just about the most customisable game I can think of, so if you take the time to get to know it first, you will come to appreciate it. It's certainly not a quick instant fix type of game, but the rewards are significant if you take your time.

    On the getting sick thing....

I got motion sick in Half Life 2 on PC, I never could complete it. That was using a monitor with various FOV tweaks too... I also got it in some early VR demos / prototypes, but... strangely, in Project Cars 1, 2 and Elite Dangerous, I haven't felt sick once, regardless of how long I play and I believe it relates to having a cockpit and the fact that you are sitting within that cockpit, so to speak. Put me in a game where you walk around in VR and there is no chance, 20 seconds later and I will be having to lay down for 3 hours to recover. Mind you, that's what the teleporting is designed to combat.

However, in PC2, if I look behind me when reversing (as you do)... maan do you feel it in the pit of your stomach... so don't do that Looking around generally is no probs though, for me at least.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I will try the game tomorrow.

For VR, I tried GT5 on PS4 and the immersion was nice but I felt looking at graphics 5 years ago... I am now use to 4k HDR graphics on my OLED and the VR resolution was a little disappointing. I guess VR on PC with the Oculus is better....

Resolution is a letdown with VR, and it is a resource hog, but it is preferred if you can run it.

Anything that can approximate FOV is superior.

But for now, your wheel will keep you occupied. Be prepared to mess with settings for months before you really dial it in. Until then, what you like one day may not feel right the next... but you will quickly learn what adjustments do what to the feel.

But with proper FOV, a locked 60 framerate, and good wheel settings, you will find yourself suspending disbelief quite often. Learning a new sim, new wheel feel, and a new VR setup can be a lot to tackle at once, and may make troubleshooting more troublesome. Be prepared to spend weeks if not months dialing everything in, and if you enjoy tweaking stuff, it can be a delight. It is worth the effort. VR can wait if resolution is an issue... do your research. There are more and more options.

VR is currently a big letdown in terms of resolution and detail compared to a 4K screen, but where it dramatically wins is in the immersion and there is no way too depict that on a Youtube video without experiencing it. If you can, get both, then you can choose how you are feeling on a given day and go for graphics or immersion. Also, flight sims are amazing in VR, so it opens up a whole new world of sim fun if you get a Rift.
