Project CARS 3 FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

    Hi everyone

If you are new to the forums or Project CARS series, welcome.
Below is a brief list of FAQs that come to mind. Feel free to post additional questions below and the moderation team will try to keep this first post updated. It would help us if posts without new questions or updated answers were kept to a minimum or submitted in other related threads.

Who is responsible for Project CARS 3?
Project CARS 3 is Developed by Slightly Mad Studios (SMS) and Published by BANDAI NAMCO.

Was the WMD Community involved in assisting developers in Project CARS 3?
No. The WMD (World of Mass Development) community was not invited to assist during the development of Project CARS 3. A very small number of extraordinary WMD contributors have apparently been offered paid positions in previous years.

Wasn't SMS purchased by Codemasters in late 2019?
That's true. However, it's important to note that Project CARS 3 had already been in development for a year or two before the acquisition and the creative direction was not stipulated by Codemasters. It is expected that Codemasters will have influence over any future games produced by Slightly Mad Studios.

Can Project CARS 3 be summarised in a brief sentence?
Probably not, but here's an attempt: While Project CARS 2 was marketed as an authentic motorsports simulation, Project CARS 3 has been designed as a fun racing game with simulation-style physics and handling. CEO Ian Bell described it in 2018 as a spritual successor to Need for Speed Shift.

How is Project CARS 3 different to Project CARS 2?
    • RallyCross and Go Kart disciplines are not included in Project CARS 3, however more road cars are featured.
    • Vehicle handling is much improved for gamepad users.
    • Your virtual driver appearance can be customised.
    • New gameplay modes: Rivals, Leaderboard challenges, Breakout, Pace Setter (3-lap time trial), Scheduled Events.
    • Online match-making matches players who have similar pace and safety rankings.
    • Register and qualify for scheduled online race events in advance. Receive notifications when the race is ready to start.
    • User-friendly spectator mode with simplified camera options and overlays.
    • Fully revamped competitive racing license system.
    • Authentic penalty system and revised track limits across all circuits.

How is Project CARS 3 similar to Need for Speed Shift?
    • There is a greater focus on single-player career mode and quick races.
    • A larger variety of road cars can be purchased in-game and have performance upgrades applied.
    • Cars become available to purchase by accumulating in-game XP (experience points).
    • Some road cars can be upgraded to full race-spec.
    • Vehicle liveries can be customised.
    • The in-game HUD (head up display) can be hidden.
    • Use your single-player garage (including upgraded cars) in multiplayer events.
    • Pitlanes are closed and inaccessible throughout the game.
    • Tyre-wear is not simulated.
    • Mini-objectives in each race such as 'Perfect corners' provide additional XP. Racing against higher difficulty opponents without assists also increases the amount of XP earned.
    • Optional corner entry, apex, and exit markers can be displayed (similar to cones placed at real-life track days).

How is Project CARS 3 similar to Project CARS 2?
Some similarities include a number of cars and tracks available in both games, similar vehicle/tyre physics, time-of-day & weather features. On PC, support for 12K (triple 4K screen) resolution and Virtual Reality headsets remains available. All cars can be used from day one in single race events even if they are not yet purchased with in-game credits.

Is there a list of cars and tracks for Project CARS 3 available?
Yes - there are over 200 cars and 120 track layouts listed on the official website.

Will there be additional cars and tracks released as DLC?
Yes, a number of DLC packs are planned, and available as a combined Season Pass. Details about these have not been shared, so there is a lot we don't know yet. We've been told that DLC tracks will be free for all. The Season Pass is included in the Deluxe edition of Project CARS 3.

    Will there be micro-transactions?
There are no micro-transactions in Project CARS 3.

Why are some popular tracks from Project CARS 2 no longer available in Project CARS 3?
License fees for some tracks may have become prohibitively expensive.

How can players change between slick and wet tyres if the weather changes during a race?
It is understood that the tyre compounds have 'all-weather' characteristics that function well enough in dry or wet conditions. Players can expect a reduction of grip in the wet and snow. Additional developer commentary is available here.

Will pit-stop and tyre wear features be reintroduced to Project CARS 3 at a later date?
No. Perhaps they will make a return in a future game.

Are private online lobbies available in Project CARS 3?
Custom multiplayer lobbies can be created and set as public, friends only, invite-only, or password-protected.

Will a dedicated server tool for PC be made available for Project CARS 3?
No. Only peer-to-peer (P2P) multiplayer is available in Project CARS 3.

Will Project CARS 3 support Shared Memory and/or UDP APIs that enable a variety of other community-made apps to function with it?
Yes, UDP support has been confirmed.

Can the number of laps of career races be adjusted by players?
No. The number of laps for a single race (outside of career mode) can be set between 1-99. It is not possible to configure race duration by time.

    What sized grids are available?
Maximum grid sizes remain the same as Project CARS 2 on PC (this was ~31) and have been increased from 16 to 20 on PS4/XB1. Due to the removal of pit-bays, some tracks can now host larger grid sizes than previous games permitted.

Can vehicle telemetry be viewed while driving?
Yes, both in-game and via 3rd-party UDP apps.

Can wheel camber be adjusted in-game?
    Yes.

    Are Button-boxes supported?
    Yes.

Can players buy the same car more than once?
Yes. Players can also sell cars back to the game (not to other players). We don't know if the selling price is less than the purchase price.

Which platforms is Project CARS 3 available on?
Project CARS 3 will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (Steam). Other stores may sell Project CARS 3 at varying prices.

Is Project CARS 3 coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S?
Nothing has been announced regarding PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, perhaps for legal reasons or due to signed non-disclosure agreements. It is generally understood that many recent PS4/XB1 games will be available on next-gen consoles, either as a re-release or via backwards-compatability, so there is reason to have high hopes. We continue to wait for an official announcement - perhaps following the reveal of console launch dates and pricing.

When will Project CARS 3 be released?
Friday 28 August 2020. Preordering the Deluxe edition grants 3 days early access (25 August), and includes the Season Pass.

    Are there any preorder bonuses?
Not exactly. The Project CARS 3: Ignition Pack DLC is reportedly free until 28 September 2020, however.

Are there questions we do not yet have answers to?
    • Is there mechanical damage? Is there terminal damage? (Visual damage is already evident).
    • Is text chat available in multiplayer lobbies and events?[
    • Can players adjust their seat position when using the interior/cockpit camera?

Does Project CARS 3 have an official community Discord server?
Yes, feel free to join us here.

Do moderators know more secret details about Project CARS 3 than others?
No, we don't (sadly). We simply scroll through large amounts of content made publicly available like any other fan of the game might and volunteer our time to help others. A number of other members who are not moderators are just as helpful and know just as much as us.

Is this the official FAQ elaborated by SMS from Discord questions some weeks ago, or is a resume of what we already know?

It's unofficial from what I could think of. Hopefully, Nathan will have a shiny new one for us soon and we can update this.

Does anyone know if we can still adjust the race length in career races? Loved that in Project Cars so far and really missed it when I revisited Shift 2 a few months ago.

It was confirmed that you can't adjust race length in career. In custom races the limit is set to 99 laps

I am happy to be corrected but as I understand it, the races will change in length during the career, so they will start short but build up.

I might have dreamed that though, so don't take my word for it

Thanks for putting this together, really useful post.

Here's one - Do we know if the seat adjustment and ctrl-k camera movement will make it to the new game so you can get a dashcam style driving view in the cockpit?
