When I got my RTX 2080 I was getting a lot of crashes with a 650W power supply, changing to a decent (gold) 850W did the trick, so far I've been alright with the RTX 3080 in there now, so hefty power supply is definitely worth considering. It will probably outlast many of the other components in your PC too.

Thanks for your words :-) Hopefully I do not need to return it ... will keep you all informed. Maybe the psu is causing GPU not being loaded up to 100%.

    Problems solved ... mainly.

The only "problem" remaining: the beeps while starting up the PC. At the moment I think it might be because of the PSU but may also be related to the fact that the card needs to run in PCIe 3.0 mode instead of native 4.0 mode ... the screen shows BIOS messages two or three seconds after startup and I think it is past the beeps ... nethertheless I will swap the PSU when it arrives, but ...

... things could be so simple when it comes to Windows.

First of all I decided to deinstall all applications and drivers which had to do with GPU and VR because I was wondering why I could not adjust RGB light of the GPU (I wanted to switch it off because I have got a closed case) and read a post that someone had deinstalled everything while having the same issue.

So I deinstalled Aorus engine, RGB fusion, Oculus Home, GeForce experience and Nvidia Control Panel and all the other Nvidia stuff, booted the PC and waited until Windows managed screen resolution by itself. Then I installed Nvidia driver advised by Gigabyte (version 457 or so), rebooted, installed Nvidia control panel and other applications, installed Geforce experience and rebooted. Then I updated the Nvidia driver to the actual version and rebooted.

To make things short ... now GPU is performing as expected.

GPU load is dependent on anti-aliasing mainly. I got 99% GPU load while running PC on AA of DS4X which drops to around 80% while running PC on AA of MSAA "only".

VR is also performing a lot better. I got a constant frame rate of 80 FPS (with a few minor drops to 77) with a performance headroom of around 20% while running PC on the same settings as before (AA to MSAA or high).

I couldn't believe it is driver related but it seems to be ...

If someone is interested in chosen settings and reached FPS I will review my videos and report about them.

    Regards, Stone

Received the new PSU today (Corsair RM1000i) and swapped the PSU - one thing I noticed before the exchange: starting PC2 caused coil whine similar noise and I realized that it was still there while running PC1 ... after the PSU change there is no coil whine noise anymore. I do not know if it was from GPU or PSU itself, but it was noticeable while running PC2.

From my point of view Gigabytes information for the PSU (600 watts for the 3060ti) is misleading or at least wrong; I would take it as 2/3 of given PSU wattage which means I would recommend a 850 watts PSU for a 3060ti ... if there is not much periphery.

I need to check VR performance again, but with PC1 and PC2 at 2k resolution it is a huge performance increase compared to the GTX 1660 Gaming OC I got - even with PC2 I can have most options set to high or ultra and only using super sampling at high level causes framerate to drop below 100 FPS on average e.g. on California Highway.

Looking forward to check out VR and will post that information, too.

    Finally ...

I did a quick check of VR today with the same settings I am using now in game (DS2X and SMAA Ultra) and while waiting for the start I got performance and framerate drop to about 40 according Oculus debug tool - as soon as the race has started and I am on track for about - let's say - 3 or 4 seconds performance increases and goes up to 77 to 80 Hz pretty constant.

I read a couple of posts and articles and I am impressed that the "old" SMP problem applies to GPUs, too, obviously: as soon as the GPU is not loaded properly it seems that threads are changing GPU cores and therefore produce context switches - I am aware this is still a problem for applications which do not use all cores of a CPU, but I am a little bit astonished this seems to be the same with GPU cores (on the other handside ... there is no difference between a CPU and a dedicated GPU technically).

Doing a couple of benchmark yesterday evening and today I noticed a performance increase as soon as GPU load is above 85% or 90% - highest framerates were encountered while GPU running on 98% and 99%.

To sum it up: a decent PSU, GPU load more than 95%, CPU load around 50 to 60% and fresh installed drivers are giving the best performance.

Thanks for patience and support :-)
