Personally, that last statement is not what I want... I don't want another rF2.
I want content created by professional, informed, individuals who have access to private, unshared data on the cars and tracks which recreate the experience as close as possible. I don't want the random 15 year old stealing content from Forza, copying physics from other cars, and slapping them into a game.

Ian's message that was posted by Konan makes it sound like they're angling to make the LittleBigPlanet of racing games. But reading through your comment there, i can't help feeling that over time, it could end up taking more of a 'Wikipedia' path, where people won't know what's credible and what's not.
And we don't want to see that happen.
But i've got faith that they'll come up with a way to make it work, and work properly.
My fear as well, and if you look at something like MSFS that offers 3rd party modded content on the in game marketplace- a ton of it is just garbage. And expensive garbage at that. I THINK he's looking at AC's player numbers and listening to people telling him modding is why AC is so huge to this day. There must be some great content for it, having recently tried it on PC (finally) I genuinely dislike it as delivered. RFactor 2 as well, oddly enough.
Provided the modding aspect doesn't impact (or interfere with) the main core of the game, I don't have a problem with opening things up if there's a market for it. Personally, I have no interest in that area though, I'd rather play from a 'curated' package built upon by the devs themselves.
To each their own.

For me it's the other way around. Never took much liking to Assetto, but now it's double, nearing triple the time of PC2. Only reason is mods because in every other aspect I find PC2 and AMS2 (much) more attractive. It's basically become the go-to sim for me and my friends and I was very much against it at first. The base game and content still doesn't do it for me. But Content Manager, the on screen apps and modding made it a different beast.
Modding is such a big plus for me that I'd happily permanently revoke my access to ACC(maybe even PC2 if you press me) to keep access to it's predecessor(AC). Of course it helps if you like doing 3d-modeling, painting and physics yourself. I re-found my 20+ year old hobby and that also adds to the enjoyment big time. And being able to share and drive something you created/modded with your friends is just magical.
